We booked this wonderful cafe for an early evening dinner. We had previously visited a few years ago for lunch, but staying locally we wanted to experience a full meal, and boy were we in for a treat. Firstly the staff were absolutely lovely, the best in fact. The site was COVID secure. The food was blooming wonderful. Our party of 7 had a mix of dishes from fish and chips, scampi and chips, mussels and chips and we treated ourselves to a plate of 12 fresh Lindisfarne oysters! WOW - they were so, so fresh, plump and tasted of the sea - just as they should. The prices here were very good but the staff made you feel welcome and had a laugh with you too. I was bought one of the Magpie Cafe cookery books too so I hope to recreate the fabulous atmosphere, can replicate the view though - I live in the countryside.........

We had the fish medley. The salmon and halibut were so over cooked to be dry. We were half way through the meal when the waitress asked how the food was. I complained. She returned saying the chef’s explanation was that as the fish was smaller than normal it would always be more cooked! What utter nonsense. The chef should reduce the cooking time obviously. My wife didn’t want to make a fuss so we were obliged to pay the bill in full. No doubt, the Magpie is not what it was if it’s chefs can’t cook fish properly.

Definitely recommend checking out the relaunched Duke of Wellington! Friendly, welcoming staff and some great ales on tap! The food is excellent! I highly recommend the Pan Fried Chicken Breast! It may sound straightforward but it’s restaurant quality tasty! The fish and chips is also a beast and definitely try the chorizo scotch egg!!

Nice meal great service and setting

My third visit the The Magpie and the quality is as good as the first time. The food is fabulous and always cooked fresh, great choice of menu, in fact probably too much choice. The service is first class and during the current covid crisis staff were all operating within guidelines, but still maintained their usual friendly service. A visit to Whitby is not complete without eating at Magpie and would always recommend it to anyone.

First ate at The Magpie back in 2014 when it felt like we were eating in Grandma’s Parlour. Forward 7 years and despite COVID safety measures the restaurant feels rejuvenated and now in the 21 Century. Yes, the meals are expensive, but the quality and size of portions makes up for this. Will definitely return within the next 7 years.

Despite being busy the service and food were excellent - our friend enjoying her 60th birthday experienced her first oyster and an unexpected birthday cake. Very enjoyable and thank you Magpie Cafe.

Our second visit to the aegean in hull the first time was at their previous location where we had an excellent experience and a great meal . We are not from Hull but visiting for a couple of nights and sought out the aegean again at their new location booked in for 7.30 on sat 5th june We arrived at 7.25 5 min early to be told there where no tables available and we would have to wait at the bar which we accepted and ordered a drink we were shortly joined by other couples who also had to wait for a table . Shortly after 8 pm we were seated and i thought things were looking up,however it took another half hour for our order to be taken and told we would have to order our drinks from another waiter this took a further 20 min Now we come to what annoyed us most a group of 4 younger people were waiting at the bar for their table at this time another party arrived and started creating a fuss at the door as like everyone else no table was available they were taken straight to a table with the youngsters left at the bar to me they were taken advantage of because of there age , why should those who shout loudest get their own way. Throughout the evening all the staff were extremely polite and obviously working under great pressure they had been seriously overbooked a couple of explanation were given but it was still very frustrating Once again the food was excellent and we would visit again we eventually left at 10.30 over 2 hours after we arrived please sort your booking procedures out everything else was great

We arrived early for a pre-booked table and we’re taken straight in to sit down. Food and service excellent. Very much enjoyed the experience.

Great food and a lovely selection. We had woof ( Huss) and Haddock great flavour and very fresh. Service was very good and staff friendly. Will be back!!

We booked The Magpie in Whitby for a late lunch as we have been there before. Oh my goodness this place just gets better. The food is lovely and always served freshly cooked and very hot. The service is wonderful too. This restaurant has lived upto its very high standard yet again.

We had booked this cafe on a recommendation from a friend and weren’t disappointed, the food was lovely and fresh and the service was great even with it being extremely busy. I do recommend booking as there was a lot of disappointed people waiting outside.

Great to be back at the Aegean the food was great and the service good we loved the new surroundings too can’t wait to return

Had booked so straight in. Had giant scallops then whole grilled Dover sole perfectly cooked with garlic butter and my sister had poached lemon sole with lemon and herb butter. Also perfectly cooked. Another wonderful wonderful meal at the Magpie with wonderful staff, accomodating and friendly as always.
