I have been to the greyhound vault on many occasions and I have to say I have enjoyed every meal the atmosphere was good and the people were welcoming when we go we are about 15 of us and no-one complains everyone enjoys their meal and they won’t go anywhere else I’ll be booking again in April as we have to book because it’s so popular

The best chips I ever tasted. If I ever go back to Wales I will be going back for more chips.

Everything we ordered was excellent and we have often mentioned it since and always recommend this restaurant to everyone. The service was very polite and reserved. I left something in the restaurant when I left and they chased me down the street to return the item - great service :-)

Hot mackerel bap with horseradish sauce - definitely sounds good BUT stay well clear of this as it was the most vile fat-soaked piece of over-cooked fish (likened to pig vomit by my friend) I have ever had. Not exaggerating. Try it if you don't believe me and don't mind saying goodbye to £2.50, or if you want a lingering taste of deeply unpleasant fishy lard. You will never taste anything like it.

We called in wile passing. Immediately the staff was very friendly, and accommodated us with an excellent meal even though they were quite busy. The meal was quit excellent and the decor very pleasant, enhancing the whole experience. We’ll definitely book next time and probably take some friends!

Our recent visit for Sunday lunch, was our first, but will not be our last. We were a large party, the service and food were excellent. We were still talking about it days later. We do not live local, but agreed we would definitely travel to eat here.

fantastic place wonderful

The Walnut Tree – Abergavenny

After having been there several times for lunch and dinner this is the place I would recommend in Abergavenny. Do phone in advance because even with the new extension it's not easy to get a table on short notice.

All the traditional stuff, you'll expect on the menu, but excellent quality and taste. Nice, friendly and correct service, always a great evening out.

We must write again to recommend this restaurant as a new chef is in residence and he IS the best in town. Authentic Italian cuisine cooked by an Italian chef....SUPERB. The service remains second to none, the atmosphere is relaxed and the prices are very good. Lunch time menu is excellent and you can eat beautiful food in a restaurant for cafe prices and evenings the menu is extensive. It really is an experience not to be missed. We simply cannot recommend it highly enough.Exceptional!

My wife and I took my mother there for lunch recently, booking well in advance and avoiding both Mother's Day and Easter to ensure that it wasn't too busy. Although we were seated quickly, the service afterwards was very slow. We were hoping for "relaxed", but felt that 45 minutes between courses was unreasonable, and we had to remind the staff that we were still there in order to get a dessert menu. The food was disappointing too; starters were pleasant but unremarkable, and the main course, described as local shoulder of lamb, may well have been this but could equally well have been another cut or even another meat, as any particular flavour came from the sauce. The potatoes, vegetables and accompanying Yorkshire pudding were described (at best) as resembling those offered at the local steak house, and (at worst) as like school dinners, for people who remember these... The desserts(home made ice cream) were good, but not the flavours told to us by the waitress, and by the time they arrived we had given up on the idea of asking for coffee. Several staff were also very unhelpful when we asked for the bill, and eventually we had to go and find someone willing to accept payment. The setting and the building itself are lovely, so it was a shame that the food and service were such a disappointment. It felt as though the business had overstretched itself...

The Bell at Skenfrith – Abergavenny
Disappointed Diner.

£86 for a meal for two. Starter, main, sorbet, Sweet, Coffee, Bottle of cheap plonk. Seemed a bit much to me, the food just ok. The dining room had the atmosphere of a school exam room. We didn’t even have a dining chair to sit at the table, it was a silly chair that made you slouch and hence terribly uncomfortable to eat. The staff were of variable performance. There was also a horrendous din from the bar all bloody night.

OMG!!!! - this is amazing. These guys are trying sooo hard. Food was wicked and really good value for money and while we were there the Landlord showed us the newly converted guest rooms which are absolutely stunning. We were so impressed we've booked to go back here for Valentines day. Really nice place too - small town near Abergavenny on the banks of the canals - went for a walk after dinner A1.

Lovely country pub, good food & wine selection & real ale on tap. We had a great meal infront of an open fire, good service & the owner is a star. Highly recommended.
