There was an event in the main room so the evening menu was reduced. Prawn cocktail and parfait starters were ok. My main of mushroom risotto was cold and had to send it back. It was brought back heated up but had the consistency of rice pudding . My partners pork belly main was nicely cooked and the sticky toffee pudding was tasty. My Eton mess desert was basically a bowl of whipped double cream with no meringue and very little else. The service was very good and staff were helpful but half of the meal was very underwhelming

Excellent meal and service in the bistro. The prawn and crayfish deserve a special mention. Delicious

The food was absolutely delicious. Pork Belly and the Duck. Lovely Christmas atmosphere in the hotel.

Very disappointing. Having read other reviews I don’t know if we just happened to go on a bad day, I booked the main restaurant as it was a significant birthday celebration for my mother. In hindsight I wish we had just had a bar meal as the bar was quite busy and I suspect that was the kitchen’s priority. I tried not to make too much of a fuss over my meal as I did not want to spoil the experience for my mother. However I had to give in and send my dauphinois potatoes back as they weren’t cooked. I did say I would have been happy to have them popped in the microwave to finish cooking them, but that did not happen. I waited and then was asked if I would like a different kind of potato as it wasn’t possible to serve the dauphinois. I declined and just had what my mother hadn’t eaten as I didn’t want to delay the meal. I had duck breast, which was as tough as old boots, but to send that back would have definitely delayed the meal and spoiled the occasion. Despite all this my mother enjoyed her meal of Dover sole, which at the end of the day was the main thing. If it was not a special occasion and just my husband and I eating I would have sent it back. There was no discount on the final bill to reflect the problem, which was also disappointing. On the positive side the staff were very friendly, but on the whole there was a lack of attention to detail.

Four of us stayed in the hotel on Saturday night and had dinner in the restaurant. It was an exceptionally good! It was beautifully presented and we all said that it was probably one of the nicest meals we have had of late. Compliments to the chef and team who also made me feel very special on my birthday. Would highly recommend.

I went to Gilroys restaurant as part of a package deal and found the food perfectly cooked and tasty, with generous portions, and the staff friendly and helpful.

The dining table looked so attractive, candles completed the atmosphere. The service was excellent . Kellie in particular was really professional and nothing was too much trouble for her. The menu didn't have a massive choice and it was on the expensive side but everyone enjoyed their meal and all in all a lovely evening.

My wife and I had two dinners here at a recent stay in the hotel. All our food was excellent, really first rate and the service could not have been better. The atmosphere was friendly and the meals were good value for money. One main course I had, the Ox check Bourginion was the best dish I have eaten this Year!

I booked a surprise birthday dinner for my girlfriend. The staff were incredibly welcoming and very accommodating. They went above and beyond to make her and the entire group feel very special. The food was all delicious and good value for the high quality. Thanks for hosting us!

I had dinner and breakfast. There was plenty of choice and the food was simply delicious and the setting was lovely. The staff also deserve a mention, as they were a credit to the venue.

Had a lovely 2 course lunch as part of a spa package deal to celebrate my sisters birthday. I cannot recommend both the hotel restaurant and spa highly enough. Both the staff and food were first class. My sister had a fabulous birthday thanks to the staff, facilities and good food. We both cannot wait to bring our families for a meal/Sunday lunch in the future.

We had a lovely stay at Marriott hotel , the staff were very friendly , room was well decorated and cosy. The location is beautiful with plenty to do near by . However our dining experience was not at all good . The starter was inedible and I told the staff but got no response from the kitchen . Main meal not much better and desert was also inedible . A bought desert which only tasted of gelatine . We were very disappointed and would probably not return because of this . I’m not usually one to complain but feel in this case it was justified . Breakfast was however very good and breakfast service excellent . We look forward to your reply . Regards John and Yvonne Whitehead

Stayed many times. Noticed slow decline with impact of Covid not helping, particularly breakfast. Used to do all fresh, home made bread, own jams etc. Bacon was stone cold even though under the lamp. Waitress at dinner brought us the wrong meal and could not identify what it was which is a bit of a basic requirement, but it was resolved speedily. Food quality was good for the price. Staff all very friendly and warm but in some cases inexperienced.
