Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleA fairly decent sized chicken bone found in starter should have at least received some acknowledgement from the chef when reported - this cut the roof of my husband's mouth. Food overall was pleasant. Children's menu basic but we were offered as originally enquired a small portion of Sunday Lunch - never was there any mention of a substantial increase in price for this option. The matter was resolved with management on payment of the bill. Desert of Rubarb Tart with Creme Anglaise was more Rubarb Crumble and Custard - a bit disappointed! Staff were welcoming and friendly although as a part Christmas gift and an awaited visit it failed to live up to expectations.
Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleLovely dining room which reminded me of other Country House hotels. Only a couple of blemishes on a really nice meal. Dead flowers on the table and in the other vases around the room which seemed silly when there are so many daffodils waiting in the garden to be used. A lemon squeezer would have been helpful too as squeezing was a messy task over my salmon steak. Staff tried hard to satisfy and were appreciated, but a Maitre D was missing when customers entered the dining room to guide everyone to a suitable table. Overall a lovely meal spoiled by a couple of blemishes. Thanks to the staff for trying so hard.

Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleBeing a dussy eater I was pleasantly surprised to find a good choice of food on the menu. We had a 3 course meal and every course was cooked to perfection and tasted absolutely delicious. Compliments to the chef.
Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleWe just got home from our spa overnight stay and had a lovely time. There were a couple of hiccups but the staff are extremely friendly and approachable. Everything was ironed out and the food was delicious. We will definitely be back, thanks to all the staff who made my daughters 18th birthday treat (and her first spa experience) just gorgeous!
Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleWe stayed overnight at the Morritt Hotel on Wed 5/04/2023. My husband and I were on our way south to visit family. We were so taken with the Hotel accommodation and the quality of the meals in the Gilroy Restaurant and Hotel Bar... that we chose to return the following week on Wed 12/04/23 on our journey north. The room we had on 5th was superb, beautifully furnished and situated in the main Building. There is an interesting variety and choice of room sizes. On the 12th the room we had was much smaller but the fact we could book a room at such short notice was pleasing. Top marks all round - for Food /Service/ Atmosphere/ and value for money.
Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleI booked a table at the Morritt Arms to celebrate a significant birthday for my husband. I explained this whilst booking and asked if the chef could possibly put a lit candle into the dessert. Sadly this failed to happen. Naturally I was disappointed. However the meal was very nice, although I felt the portions were quite small. The staff were lovely.
Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleSupper offered up a varied menu and the meals we were served were tasty and wholesome but not spectacular. The breakfasts are best avoided unless it is stodgy , all you can eat and without a quality focus… the presentation lacks imagination and hygienically questionable… plus being unlimited means the pastries are available only to the lucky few fortunate enough to be there at the start of service.
Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleWe stayed for the one night All the team on duty both pm and am were polite and couldn't do enough for us We had 2 dogs with us and the room had a dog bed already for their arrival Everyone was so friendly

Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleHad afternoon tea. Even the small cakes were home made! All delicious and service wonderful
Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleWe had a spa afternoon tea and it pains me to leave such a review but we won't be returning for afternoon tea it was dreadful!! The bread was stale, the beef was still running around the field, and as for brie and cranberry as a choice of sandwich best to leave that to a panini or toastie! Much nicer afternoon teas in the area and much better value for money. However, on a much more positive note the spa and therapists were lovely definitely worth a pampered treat.
Gilroy’s Restaurant at The Morritt – Barnard CastleFantastic - we had afternoon tea here first and it was really lovely, sandwiches and small selection of cakes and a scone . No issues and they catered for diary free . Our evening meal was delicious but was too full for desert , everything was cooked beautifully and the staff here are so friendly and nothing is a problem. The waitress and Adam G served us as if we were VIP - first class service .
