The Waitrose Food & Drink Report 2017-2018

News

You might well be interested in the food trends predicted to sweep the UK in 2018. But before we get to that, the latest Waitrose Food & Drink Report has finally resolved one of life’s great mysteries: Northerners really do prefer brown sauce with their pie (whilst southerners are evenly split between red and brown). So there you have it. And here’s what to watch out for in 2018:

Indian Street Food
Bye bye chicken tikka masala. Hello tapas-style Indian street food. Expect smoked, grilled and seared delicacies from a food truck near you.

Japanese Dude Food
We had no idea either but apparently this is the unhealthier end of the Japanese food spectrum (is there one?) with hearty fare to tuck into after a big night out.

Fourth Meal
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are so last century darlings. With our hectic lifestyles expect more mid-afternoon or late-evening snacking.

Smaller Trolleys
The days of the big weekly shop are on the wane and with it the super-size trolley. Soon shopping will be just one of many activities you can indulge in at your local supermarket.

Plant Proteins
The high-protein plant-based diet is where it’s at. Think pulses, shoots, grains, seeds. And algae. Key components of the flexitarian diet.
