Had Sunday lunch with 6 of my family for my fathers birthday. I chose this because I had had lunch there recently during the week and it was excellent with very fresh and tasty options. Sunday lunch wasn't quite as good, the pork was a little tough, the potatoes slightly underdone and very light on gravy (we did get a little more on request). But lovely stuffing and yorkshires. Really appreciated the gluten free options for my son, he had plenty of choice which was refreshing. Lovely atmosphere and the service was friendly if a little slow - a very big restaurant with lots of tables and staff were doing their best to get round.

Another amazing roast at The Barn. Brought my son and son in law who don’t normally like roasts and both ate everything and commented on how lovely it was! High praise to the chefs! The lady serving us called Lisa was extremely friendly and attentive. Highly recommend

Great, fresh food .

First time I have eaten on a Sunday although have been many times before for weekday meals. Two of us had the Sunday roast beef brisket and it was first class. My partner had the skate and was disappointed that it didn't have vegetables with it although the fish was stuffed and had a sauce with it. We can't remember what our 4th guest had but it was something with prawns. Brilliant service as usual but not manic as it is in the week.

Had a lovely lunch last Thursday

I ate lunch here with a friend and her son and I specifically chose this restaurant due them having gluten free options on the menu, which I had checked in advance. I asked for the ‘barn burger’ which detailed gluten free option available, but when I came to order this, the server advised that this wasn’t available due to it being a Korean fried burger, so this was disappointing. Once we had finished our lunch, we wanted to order coffees and cake, but there was a very long wait/ very hard to get a servers attention, by which time I went to the front till. We asked for a table of water with the coffees and cake which didn’t arrive and I had to again try to get a servers attention to ask for this.

Had a lovely brunch at The Barn Plenty of vegetarian options (miracle in itself!) very good price and very tasty. Service was also very good

What a delicious Sunday lunch I and my friend had . My lamb shoulder melted in the mouth and Diana’s pork belly was superb …..especially the crackling! A lovely selection of veg…..not to mention enormous Yorkshire puddings with extra gravy to complete a wonderful main course. We finished with real vanilla pannaccottas and didnt need anything more to eat that day. THANKYOU chef and your team!

Came to the Barn for a family occasion for the pancakes (they were AMAZING when we last came!) and we ordered 4 potions of pancakes. Sadly, they had sold out of pancakes (it would have been helpful to know this when we sat down with the menu!) We changed our order to a fruit scone, chocolate cake, a smoked salmon and egg thing with a fancy name, and avocado with poached egg and bacon. The brunch dishes were excellent - really delicious and a little bit different than anywhere else I have been. The scone was fine, and the chocolate cake was average. Coffee was pretty good (2 flat whites with extra shots) and the juice was nice. Overall, I would recommend the food and service. Now I’ll have to go back when they have pancakes again!

One of the best places in Colchester for breakfast. Staff are really friendly and helpful, food is great and the bubble and squeak is delicious. Have been here several times, including lunch where as a group of 20, we celebrated a significant birthday, the food and welcome never disappoints.

Met friends for breakfast.They chose the barn breakfast which was well presented very tasty & value for money. My friend & I had scone & cake & they were excellent. The only downside I feel is the vegetarian options are somewhat limited at lunch time
