New Maharajah The – NewquayI've been going here for years — I remember when it was still an artists studio. I love the cosy feel, the booths, the decor which is a lot more than the ubiquitous fishing net, although it has that as well. From the picture of Marilyn Monroe, to the paper money from around the world, to the endlessly fascinating photo-montages of historic pictures of the town, there's something interesting in every nook and cranny. The food is wonderful. We did a taste-test and found their Dover sole to be easily the best in the town — huge and moist. The vegetables are some of the best, too. I especially love the Cornish smokies starter and the Mermaid Mess dessert. Also try the surf 'n' turf. The staff are very friendly. You can relax here and, for us, it's like coming home.
Mermaid Seafood Restaurant – St IvesWe rushed in rather late for a restaurant but were warmly greeted and accommodated. The food, service and atmosphere was so fantastic we opted for the same again the next night having originally intended to eat elsewhere! (May 2009)
Greenhouse Organic Restaurant – The LizardA very friendly pub In a lovely setting on the Roseland peninsular. Can be a bit of a fiddle to find but is worth the effort. The landlady is very friendly and made us very welcome. Great menu and specials. My only groan would be that the starters were overpriced for what you get. However overall experience very good.
Kings Head – TruroThis busy pub is right in the centre of St Mawes close to thee car park and therefore i very busy. There is a sun terrace at the front, but plenty of space inside. The food is good to very good, and the menu is varied with a reasonable specials board aswell, however be warned the portions are huge. Usually eat here at least once when we are in St Mawes, as good food and friendly service.
Rising Sun Hotel – TruroI had a very bad experience at The Navy in Penzance. Whilst enjoying a pint with my friends, I picked up the candle, only to be told by the chef that, in a very aggressive way, that I should not touch it as it cost more that the profit he makes on a barrel of beer. He then muttered a four letter expletive under his breath. Not a nice experience - would not recommend the place.
Navy Inn – PenzancePossibly the best staff in any Restaurant. They don't suffer fools gladly and are totally on the ball in a really busy place. food is really good quality and it's fast and friendly. Booking is advisable as it's hectic during summer months. I really enjoy going back to this place time after time as I know that it is always good value and service is tops!
Rojano’s in the Square – PadstowHaving spent a fabulous sunny week in Padstow we definitely ended the week on a high dining at No.6. What a fabulous experience the food was excellent!!! - The Scallops and black pudding amazing, mains and desserts to die for! We dined with our 11 year old daughter and 3 year old son and nothing was too much trouble. We could not fault any part of our dining experience the staff were courteous - they made you feel welcome and special our children loved it and so did we! We will definitely return on our next visit to Padstow - keep up the good work.
Paul Ainsworth at No 6 – PadstowThe worst customer care I have ever experienced in my life, staff rude, food very poor. Will not re-visit as long as this pub is managed by the current tenant. We were humiliated in front of other diners after having complained our peppercorn sauce was sour, I complained quietly and not within earshot of others. Shame the person dealing with the matter was not so discrete.
The Edgcumbe Arms – TorpointGREAT. Atmospheric, brilliant service and knowledge. Fabulous food. A real find, but shhh, don't want everyone going there!
Provedore – FalmouthSuperb! Our meal this evening was probably the best we have eaten anywhere in Cornwall in the past year. The Staff are really friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Our Mushroom starter was fabulous, the sauce with it was memorable. An absolute "must" if you are either visiting the area or, like us, live locally. We really liked the little "boothes" too. Don't bother with Steins this is the only place in the Padstow area to dine.
Seven Bays Bistro – PadstowI love this restaurant, I visit Rock in Cornwall 3 or 4 times a year and eat out a lot, I discovered the Harbour tucked away in Port Isaac last year and it's become my favourite place to eat. The owner is also the chef and that speaks volumes to me. The first thing I love is the location, Port Isaac is a beautiful village set around a steep sided natural harbour, the Restaurant is a pretty little olde worlde wonky building right on the Harbour front looking out to sea. Inside, the decor is lovely and fresh - feels very homely with scatter cushions, lovely wooden tables and nice pictures on the walls. The food is really excellent, great ingredients, tasty recipes and lovely presentation. Nice house wine at a decent price too. Over all, it's a bit more expensive than a pub supper but you absolutely get what you pay for. Watch out for the tide if you park on the beach, also, I'd recommend booking as there are only a few tables and it's been fully booked whenever I have been. The table service has usually been excellent, always friendly but varies on different nights. Also, if you don't like fish, there's only usually a couple of non fish dishes on the menu so might be worth checking! The fillet steaks are fabulous.
The Slipway – Port IsaacAmazing. Enuff said. fantastic staff, great food and an atmosphere to die for. The best place in the world
Onshore Restaurant – St IvesWe just heard they had a new chef so we went for Sunday Lunch. It was really nice and tasty and friendly staff. A beautiful spot to spend a few hours overlooking the beach. We will be back. Dave and Alice.
St Ives Harbour Hotel – St IvesDelightful restaurant in the pretty village of St kervene. We had a most fantastic Sunday lunch- the baked cod was delicious. We booked a table for my birthday on 13th May and it was seafood evening. My husband had the lost amazing fresh crab and the fish and chips. The portions are huge but well priced. I would certainly recommend this restaurant.
Greenhouse Organic Restaurant – The LizardWe had a lovely meal here on 13th May - asparagus, chicken, bream and treacle tart. We recommend it.
Greenhouse Organic Restaurant – The LizardWhat a cracking place to go for an excellent evening meal. The reception and service was excellent. The food was stunning. I've been to some fantastic eating places in the south west and this is right amongst them. Well done.
Firehouse Bar and Grill – St IvesMy wife and I dined on Saturday 9th May 09 and Wednesday 13th May 2009. The 9th was our first visit since September 08, and I found that Food and service has reached a exceptional Standard with fantastic tasting food, which was a cut above the rest and the freshness shone through with exceptional tastes followed by plate presentation which was as good as what you would expect from a Michelin star Restaurant !. Staff were attentive and accurate, professional and tended to our every need. The same was observed on Wednesday 13th May 09 this time we had two of our friends with us and they described the food as 'outstanding' no problems encountered and yet another excellent evening had by all, Restaurant Decor is modern and the Conservotory is recommended also it has been noted that even with a busy evening with about at least 20 covers staff remained focused throughout and made no errors which all adds to a great dining experience. These comments are true and all thoughts are genuine. We willl continue to eat at this Restaurant, it is worth noting that a fair comment is that the food and experience was better than that of the Porthminster Beach Cafe, I personally thought the food at the Atlantic Waves had a better taste, however this does not take away that the Beach Cafe is a very good Restaurant but the Atlantic Waves had the edge, which all Staff should be proud. Regards MR&MRS HOGAN.
