Travellers Rest Inn – GrasmerePlease do not book with this restaurant, please read about the way in which they treat the foreign staff and treat them on "Gumtree" it's like reverting back to the 1800's low paid, very very long working hours, and most of all the abuse these employers dish out to the foreign staff is well outdated. Thanks for reading
Cumbria Cafe and Restaurant – GrasmereProbably the best bistro in Grasmere. No silly prices, excellent choice and a good, friendly host.
Saras – GrasmereGreat interior but awful food accompanied by a tone deaf singer
Ash Cottage – GrasmereMathews, Ambleside Great food, large portions, fresh veg, great wine, relaxing ambience
Ash Cottage – GrasmereQuite simply, the Wordsworth Hotel was the most disappointing hotel experience ever. We’ve stayed in Grasmere lots of times, at various different hotels, B&Bs or rental cottages but we’d always fancied trying the Wordsworth. The occasion was my Dad’s 80th birthday. The worst thing was the service, but the rooms weren’t much better. At dinner, it took hours to get everyone served - it was like something from Gordon’s Kitchen Nightmares. The food wasn’t that great - over-fancy and way overpriced. We’d expected good, wholesome Cumbrian fare. My mother ordered steak and her face was something to behold when three tiny pieces of meat in a fancy sauce arrived. It would have been funny if it hadn’t been a very special family event getting ruined. And if the whole thing hadn’t been costing an arm and a leg. They couldn’t even manage to serve breakfast promptly and efficiently. We had to ask for everything at least 3 times: tea, toast and so on. The rooms were really dingy and in need of a good lick of paint. We had blood-stained wallpaper in ours. My sister and her boyfriend had a shower that didn’t work and - worse still - a toilet that didn’t flush. There were no tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms. The pool was grubby too. It had that uncared for feel about it. There were two unwanted, shabby old sofas in one corner. The Jacuzzi was stone cold despite us and other guests complaining to the management. In the gym, the rowing machine didn’t work either. We did complain several times whilst there - as did other guests. In fact, I sat in reception for ten minutes and witnessed three different sets of guests complaining about various things. My mother wrote to the hotel in September, immediately after our stay. My mother has phoned the Wordsworth several times to ask why they have not had the courtesy to reply. It’s now over two months later and we haven’t heard a word. I really wouldn’t recommend this hotel. There are some lovely hotels in Grasmere, many cheaper than this one but with a much higher standard of accommodation, food and service.
The Wordsworth Hotel and Spa – GrasmereNice cafe offering excellent cakes and a range of snacks. So good we called twice ~ once at the beginning of our wander and once at the end. There were eight of us in total and we were all served quickly by the polite staff. Problem with one chilly coffee was sorted straight away. Sticky toffee pudding with cream recommended. Cheers
Greens Cafe and Bistro – GrasmereOn a crisp cold winters day (I have only been in winter), you could do no better than to stop at the Jumble Room for a bowl of warming soup or delicious risotto; the puddings are good too! The atmosphere is quirky, relaxed and friendly, and you will even find a few annuals from your youth to keep you entertained. I found it by accident three years ago, and returned by design for the first time a few weeks ago. It has only got better, and is now a must visit whenever I am back in the lakes.
Jumble Room – GrasmereThis little tea room is quaint, old, and very welcoming. The food is home made, the service is relaxed, the furniture old and the atmosphere warm, especially after a wet rainy day in the lakes. There's a big collection of teas, the rarebit is delicious as are the cakes and it's been there for years!
Baldreys – GrasmereThe ambiance at the Cumbria Cafe is unequalled in Grasmere. On any given summer evening, one can feast on traditional and moderately priced English dishes while gazing at a wishing well on a village lane and listen to the gentle bleating of the sheep nearby. The service is excellent, the dinners delicious, and views of the fells breathtaking.
Cumbria Cafe and Restaurant – GrasmereWe love the real ales in this pub and the service is very good. We did have a dodgy meal on our previous visit but it was a lot better this time around. As pub grub goes, it? very nice!
Travellers Rest Inn – GrasmereThis place was a real find. The service was very good and very friendly. Thought the food was very good and was enjoyed in a cosy setting. If we stayed in Grasmere again, we? book a table!
Saras – GrasmereI cannot do justice to the Moss Grove Hotel experience. My husband and I decided to treat ourselves to something a little special so we picked the Moss Grove Hotel. The prices may be a little higher than average but in my humble opinion it is worth every penny. The welcome was warm and felt genuine, the food (organic obviously) was heavenly and after feeling quite under the weather for a couple of weeks (nasty chest infection) I felt rested, relaxed and 'healthy' after only 2 nights. We'll return!
Moss Grove Organic – GrasmereI was desperate to visit The Jumble Room after reading it's website, and it lived up to all of my hopes. My husband and I enjoyed a very special evening here. We can thoroughly recommend the mushroom and nutmeg soup, organic battered fish with chips and mushy peas and the organic chicken with sweet potato and chilli jam. If you're a fan of cheesecake then you must try it (I passed on a starter to leave room!) I can guarantee you it has never seen an artificial colour/preservative. The surroundings are comfortable and a little quirky - I loved the place.
Jumble Room – GrasmereLancrigg what can I say an amazing home from home hotel with a variety of wonderful home cooked vegetarian food. Set in idyllic surroundings with beautiful views a perfect place to unwind.
Lancrigg Hotel & Kitchen – GrasmereI visited the Jumble Room twice during a short stay at Grasmere and I was satisfied both times. I absolutely loved the colourful decoration and the relaxed atmosphere. The service was on the friendly side, effective nevertheless. The food was carefully cooked and the dishes had character. The cost was average for a quality restaurant. All in all a pleasant place.
Jumble Room – GrasmereThe Jumble Room is THE best restaurant in the Lake District, non of your pretentious food here, just honest to goodness real fresh food cooked with flair and a real love of flavours and so fresh, from the homemade beer battered fish and chips to the thai tiger prawns (which are to die for). A little gem hidden on a back street. often booked up ages in advance and kept a secret to those in the know. Andy and Chissy will look after you and I promise you will leave this place with great memories and a promise to return.
