4 of us went to the Ship at Elswick on the May Bank Holiday Monday at just after 2pm, the place was not too busy and we chose a nice table in the conservatory, and settled down with the menu. The wives picked a Curry and Hot Pot respectively, my friend and I went for the “Posh Pie” When it arrived it was served with Frozen Chips that were absolutely the most tasteless I can ever remember having being presented with, the gravy boat content was like liquid gel and the pie though looking good and actually tasted good, had a severe shortage of meat content and the special Stilton Cheese that it was to contain according to the menu, apparently had arrived too late to go into the batch we ate, the Green Beans were good and to be fair our ladies both enjoyed their choices. At £10 for a plate of Pie and Chips, I had expected fresh chips and if the Ships wants to be considered a Good Food Venue as it not really a Pub in the true sense of the word, it needs to think beyond easy options for the chef.Wardie

Having seen the reviews and pictures of the Cartford Inn in on Sugarvine, my partner and I decided to visit on a Saturday evening. On arrival the atmosphere and surroundings were pleasant. We had not booked a table and we were informed there was a forty minute wait. We agreed to this understanding that it was a busy Saturday night. However after an hour and twenty minutes wait we were finally shown to our table. What was disappointing was that whilst waiting the maitre'd seem to ignore that we were there and did not update us on how much longer we would have to wait for a table. We did decide to stay as it was getting later into the evening. When we were finally shown to our table we found the food excellent and very good service from a young waiter. We will return to the Cartford Inn despite being disappointed by the service from the maitre'd. Advisable to book on a Saturday evening.

This was our first trip to the ship. It was excellent! The menu was great and the children's menu had much to offer. It had a lovely feel to the place and the conservatory is a great place to dine!! Will certainly be returning to this establishment !!!

Ive eaten here on a number of occasions. It is a little more expensive than the usual pub lunch but food is superb, excellent portions, friendly staff & lovely decor. Latest meal was a small family 18th celebration, we had meals ranging from steak to burger to lamb hotpot. Starters from prawns to chicken wings. Everyone had empty plates! 9.5 out of 10. It is a little bit expensive but for a special occasion & if you want a more informal atmosphere with family it ticks all the boxes.

Most interesting in every way from decor and artwork to friendly and humorous staff then of course there is the food where quality far outstrips quantity thank goodness. Very French an utter delight in this area. My favourite venue!

First visit since the refurb and was very impressed. (I’m clearly not the only one either as it was pretty busy for a Tuesday night in early December.) We sat by the open fire and both had the fish pie which was a delight. It’s changed since last time I had this and is now what you might call ‘deconstructed’ but the flavours are amazing. Great wine list too – we had the Pieropan Soave. With the new bedrooms added and the back wall of the dining room opened up to give diners a view of the Wyre, this has to be the best dining pub in the Fylde now. In fact, it’s more like a French auberge which given that the owner is from Bordeaux is, I guess, no surprise.

After finding this place on your site(it jogged my memory as i haven't been here in many years) 3 of us decided to go for Sunday lunch. what a transformation, the interior looks great. Very warm and inviting. We all opted to go straight into the mains, with my old man having the beef and stilton pie, mum having the chicken, bacon and mozzarella and myself having the Hot pot. The hot pot was amazing, the lamb was so tender and they were good sized chunks. My dads pie was a resounding success with big meaty chunks and Mums also tasted good. i finished the scraps off. The only downer was that the pickled red cabbage from a jar was heated up which i thought weird. We ended with raspberry eton mess and sticky toffee pudding. If you haven't been to this place then i definitely recommend a drive out. The atmosphere was busy and the staff attentive. Will be back.

As I am in the trade and only get one night a week off my wife and I decided to dine the Cartford Inn as it has been awarded with the Highest Quality Award..... When we arrived we had to find our own table and collect our own menu as there was nobody to greet us. I ordered a simple 8oz burger and fries and a side order of onion rings. To my disappointment I got an uncooked burger which was cold in the centre. I then alerted the waitress who at once took it back to the kitchen. As an experienced chef I would have replaced the burger with a freshly cooked one, I would not have recooked the old burger. 8 minutes later I received the old burger with a bite I took out of it. There was no evidence that this had been re flame grilled or pan fried, I received no replacement cutlery. Unfortunately when the dish had been returned to the kitchen the waitress did not take away the side order. By the time my main course was returned the side order was stone cold. I then alerted the owner who said 'we cook all our burgers pink'. I explained that the burger was raw not pink, and that it seemed to have been recooked in a microwave. I was told 'I can assure we don't use microwaves for cooking'. The owner was somewhat unsympathetic and dismissive. Things may not always come out of the kitchen perfectly but it is possible to redeem the situation by the front of house staff. Unfortunately in this case the service at the front of house was also poor. A very much missed opportunity to improve the situation.

Been visiting this chippy for several years most Friday nights. We travel about 15 miles to get there because its the best one in the area. Always tasty, well cooked food and quick, friendly service

This was our first experience of The Ship and it won't be our last. The Lancashire Hotpot was seriously scrummy; I can't wait to return for more. We will definitely be recommending this place to our friends and family The relaxed, friendly and welcoming atmosphere makes the experience all the better.

14 of us went for my husbands 50th Birthday Treat, we had the top floor all to ourselves, the service was excellent and the food was divine. The menu choice was large and quality of food was wonderful, would highly recommend

My friend and I had an excellent Chicken curry last week. The sauce was really tasty with a good bite to it and the rice just perfect. We had 1/2 rice and chips and the chunky chips were cooked just perfectly. Service was excellent with a smile and enquiring whether everything was to our satisfaction. The beer was an excellent Wainwrights bitter with a clear presentation served with a good head that kept all the way down the glass. We have already booked for a return meal next week when we shall try something different

Very nice inside now it has been refurbished, it is comfy and has a nice ambience.... sadly we were disappointed with the food it was poor which is not good for a small village pub it needs to be really good ...such a shame as I could not recommend this to friends or any one else..

I first visited the Cartford Inn in late October and since then i have been back no less than 7 times, the last being two weeks ago. I have never had such a good meal - i was very impressed. I would recommend the chicken liver parfais for starters - its unreal. I would go back time and time again without a second thought
