Frustrated Customer

I have dined at the Sloop Inn many times when visiting the gorgeous South Hams region and have been delighted with the service and food. However, to my dismay, early in November having looked forward to a scrumptious fish and chips at the Sloop, I was very disappointed. The fish batter was hard and over cooked causing the fish to be dried out and the chips, well the less said the better. We asked the waitress for tatare sauce which did not appear, we asked again and had almost finished our meal before it appeared.

I am very disappointed by this pub. From the website and from the outside it looks so promising. The main problem seems to be the landlady who treats her customers with contempt as much as anything else. If the front of house is not okay then don't expect a decent drink and fine food. It won't happen.

used to be very good years ago. standards have dropped dramatically. not worth the price at all.

we have heard so much about this place also the fancy decor persuaded us to have a meal. but i was utterly disgusted with the artificial colourings in the dishes also the amount of grease. yuk! that is not proper food.

I'll start off by saying that the service is great, even the takeaway service, the food is spectacular the Sally which I normally have is very tasty, my boyfriend has the jalfrezi or the madras & that is very good too. We've been up to cambridge a few times & its nothing compared to the mahabharat. Once we ordered a takeaway to be delivered & they were 10 minutes late so we called up & the reason being that they were late because they couldn't find our place but because they were late they gave us a free big bottle of beer. so the mahabharat is the best indian ive ever been to. :D

Great pub with a terrific atmosphere - mixed crowd - try the hot chocolate cocktails if you need to go outside for a smoke ! I wish all land-ladies were as cool as Jo ! Mmmm nice breakfast !

Fantastic atmosphere, brilliant food and a lovely restaurant. Two years ago me and my husband went to the Old Inn (previously called the New Inn)and were not overly impressed. However after visiting this summer we were amazed by the improvements to the pub. Thoroughly enjoyed the food and will be visiting again.

Very good range of well-prepared seafood at a fair price compared to the going rate elsewhere (where the word 'fish' seems to attract a high premium). The ambience is no-nonsense bistro-style and is particularly enjoyable in the summer when one can sit outside under an awning in an almost Mediterranean-like atmosphere. Didn't like the background music in the main restaurant much and the lavatory was a bit small, but you cannot have everything. You can BYO at lunchtimes for a £2.50 corkage fee - a significant saving on overall cost. Overall, excellent value and a wonderful experience, especially in summer.

The pub is under new management and it shows as the previous owner was unfriendly and unwelcoming. Now the pub has been revamped and is a fantastic venue for an evening out. My three children thought the food was wonderful and the live music was a great way to end our holiday.

Excellent pub with great atmosphere, great bubbly staff and wonderful food. Very good for families with children! The fish was absolutely superb and the chocolate pudding a delight! Wines good and everything really full of flavour and beautifully presented. Excellent chef

I felt this was very mediocre food at a very high price. For a family of four it was over £75 for a very average pub supper. No starters and puddings were over £5 each which is exorbitant in my opinion considering they were not very good at all. My fillet steak was okay but nothing special and the vegetable selection was quite mean and uninteresting. Flavour very limited and I was very disappointed. The waitress hardly welcomed us and took our menus away before we had ordered for another table which we found quite odd and somewhat rude.

Lovely food, but we felt we paid a lot for the restaurant's reputation.

I just have to say how good this place really is. From the moment we drove down the drive way to the moment we departed. The tall, good looking Restaurant Manager was an excellent host and chose a delightful wine that complinented our food perfectly. Well worth a visit or two!

Popped in for a quick meal on a Saturday. Followed the recommendation for the ham as it is prepared on site. Really nice dinner, nice people and not expensive. Big portions - chap said jokingly it was to stop us asking for puddings!

i came to the church house in the summer in a very busy time of year and i was still made to feel welcome. i was served by two young waiters one of which was ginger who i later found out was called ashley. both of them were charming and helpful. the food was brilliant in taste smell and looks. i will be returning for a meal every time i come back down to the area and i hope it stays the same.
