Had another wonderful meal at the Magpie Cafe, staff very attentive always visit this restaurant when we are on holiday in Whitby

First time going there,really enjoyed the meal ,service really good. Would definitely go again.

Crown is a lovely family pub, the food is brilliant the staff are fantastic and the atmosphere is perfect, highly recommended to anyone

This was our 4th meal since the new ownership and as per the other meals it was delicious. It’s really nice having the specials and it was all cooked beautifully. The carrot cake was amazing again as were the Whitebate. We were sat outside which is lovely in this weather.

My friend and I visited The Magpie on the last night of our holiday this week- I’d eaten there before several times and it had always been great. Sadly this time my meal was let down by the Magpie Medley. My friend’s meal arrived and was delicious, but I think mine had been kept under the warming lights as all of the fish was dry and overcooked. I was very disappointed but as my friend’s meal was good and the waitresses were lovely I didn’t want to make a fuss. I should have said something as the meal was to be the highlight of the holiday.

We attended as a party of 6 on the 16.7.21. Our booking was at 8pm. The Restaurant was full to capacity which whilst pleasing to see the minimalist decor/ lack of soft furnishings meant that it was incredibly loud and noisy and conversations were difficult to be had over the table. It took over 20 minutes to attempt to order simply a drink and the waiter who served our drinks could not take our food order. We waited another 20 minutes to have our food order taken only to be told at this point that a number of key menu items were not available. We were considering the Meter but was told at this time it was not possible. With a vegrterian in the party the choice of meals for them were limited. Our order was eventually taken and at 9.10 our starters were served. The food was good and it was ag this point we were informed a menu ordered as a main course was no no longer available. This was challenged and staff were not very hospitable simply stating what can we expect its a busy Friday night. At 9.40 our Main courses were brought as a token jesters a spicy cheese dip was offered. The main courses were large in size and good. We would consider returning knowing that previously the service and food was outstanding, however we would not recommend going on a weekend as they clearly could not cope with the demand of so many covers.

Fish and chips done very well. We had 2 small portions of cod and chips. The quality of the fish was excellent and the batter was very light and not greasy at all. if you want to sample good fish and chips in Whitby we would recommend a visit to The Magpie.

Absolutely gorgeous food! Amazing Italian or Greek options. Highly recommend for a quick bite or a special occasion. Great service, wonderful atmosphere. We will be back.

Would highly recommend great food & friendly staff. The night we went was really hot so it was great that the doors were fully open. With no holidays abroad this year it at least gave us the feeling on being in Greece
