That fact that you need to book way before the date you wish to eat at The Magpie, speaks volumes. It is one of the most popular (if not THE most popular) fish restaurants in Whitby. The food is excellent, the staff are very friendly and experienced, the atmosphere is always great and always good the value for money. Some may not know this, but The Magpie doesn't just have fish on the menu, it caters for meat eaters too. My fiancé and I, along with our friends, have eaten at The Magpie often and always booked a couple of months in advance to save disappointment. You will always find a queue of hopefuls outside, day or night. If you wish to have a fabulous food experience, try The Magpie; you'll soon become one of its many staunch devotees.

Dined twice during a four night stay in Whitby. Both meals very enjoyable - fried haddock and chips, grilled skate, boiled pots and parsley sauce, haddock and salmon gratin dish, all excellent. Ability to combine items from the menu to make a dish of personal choice is particularly satisfying. Booking is advisable to avoid over an hours wait at busy times. Service is very helpful and attentive.

Had the regular portion of cod and chips , mushy peas as well. Should have had a small portion ! Excellent service, all helpful and friendly girls/ladies. Fantastic food, best fish and chips I have ever had. Excellent menu choice , lots of different fish and other choices if you don’t like fish. Busy restaurant but does not effect the service . Will be back

Food was outstanding chips were crispy outside and fluffy inside, fish was very fresh. Fruit cake and cheese was not stingy on the the cheese so well worth the money. If your going to visit book a table in advance so you can jump the queue.

Plenty to choose from on the menu plus specials. Appreciated the facility to have a main course as starter size as portions are generous. Well cooked, tasty dishes. Very popular so we had to book well in advance to secure a table

I was determined on this visit to the Magpie that I would eat something else other than fish and chips. So glad I did as my haddock and salmon gratin was amazing. Service is always first class. My only hope is that I can get a booking for tomorrow night to have my fish and chips before I go home after my holiday.o

Amazing! Second time visiting this restaurant. Truly authentic Greek food, everything is cooked fresh and to absolute perfection. Huge portions, very well priced. Staff were very attentive. Didn’t have to wait long between courses, can’t wait to come back.

We visit the magpie quite a lot and always enjoy our meal. The staff are always efficient and very friendly. It’s the only time I eat fish.

For my starter I had Breaded Whitebait, which I can honestly say, was the best I have ever had! I followed this with a 12 oz Haddock, which again surpassed my expectations; beautiful crispy light batter, containing sweet, succulent Haddock! I thought my local Fish & Chip shop was good, but the experience I had last night, I don’t think will ever be beaten, unless I can get myself back to the Magpie Cafe! We're pretty much regulars for the Sunday roast. Epic service and friendly staff. The food is on point! Never had a bad meal. The bar has some nice beers/ales rather than the usual fosters/carling rubbish. They're dog friendly and always fuss and ask questions about our pup. Definitely recommend, please keep up the great work!

Very nice meal (Beef roast dinner), reasonably priced with timely and attentive service from the friendly staff. Same for the drinks, had a bottle of good quality wine with the meal and a couple of pints afterwards. A smart modern interior belies any first impression you may get when driving past !
