We have been regular diners at '31' for a number of years and are pleased to report that following the permitted re-opening in December 2020 we continued to enjoy an excellent meal and wine this week.

Just excellent. Excellent service, excellent food, all PPE excellent. Could not have been better. Don’t know what else to say really.

Another fabulous meal at 31 Castlegate. Food was excellent and great value as was the wine. Highly recommend the black pudding scotch egg. Service was friendly and efficient - already booked again !!

After the latest lockdown we ventured into York and enjoyed yet another meal at 31 Castlegate. It was not our first visit and despite the restaurant being quiet, the food was excellent, and as the main was all cooked fresh, we enjoyed a bottle of wine and a nice starter whilst we were waiting. Nothing is too much trouble. Overall such a pleasant experience after being stuck at home for a month.

We went to Giorgo’s the night before lockdown so it was really busy and they didn’t have our reservation but still got us seated. The food was delicious and really good sized portions and the atmosphere vibrant and welcoming. The staff were attentive and friendly and we would definitely come back again.

Nice pub, nice staff and nice grub. We went for the Sunday carvery and really enjoyed it. Yes there was a bit of a wait but in these covid times that is to be expected. The staff were happy, friendly and helpful unlike in some other places we visited... The food was good and we enjoyed our time at The Ship.

Lovely pub, friendly staff happy to chat. Felt COVID-19 safe, clean and well organised. Just in for drinks before the lockdown again, ironically also earlier in the year The Ship was our last pub visit for a while! Made us and our pooch very welcome. Thanks and stay safe!

We had fish and chips here on Wednesday.......they were absolutely delicious. The service was excellent. We were left to have a chat and a rest without interruption. Covid requirements were in place and we felt very safe. We will certainly be going again.

The Ship Inn appeared to be going everything in their power to make visiting diners safe. So thank you for that. The food was very nice and the portions were generous but I must say, they were not presented particularly well. My only real complaint is that I paid for a round of drinks before our meal and used contactless. I was then told the machine wasn’t working so was asked to pay again on another machine. Both payments were taken. Luckily it was only £5 but this shouldn’t happen and you can’t really prove this has happened until the payments appear on your bank transactions a day or so later.

Been here a few times now and never had a bad experience. The food is amazing, the staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is lovely. Will definitely be returning for more visits!

On arrival we were taken to our table everyone was wearing a masks whilst moving around the restaurant and all the staff were wearing masks . We got our drinks and they gave you enough time to browse the menu .We all packed out starters and mains which were amazing just as you would get anywhere in Greece . The service was just right very relaxed no rushing only coming back to the table to make sure the food was alright or to get us more drinks .The price was just right what an amazing night Thank You so much .
