Very nice food good service

Been a few times over the years, love The Aegean. It takes us back to holidays in Greece, Mythos n great food! Celebrated our 29th anniversary there the other day. Really friendly staff, beautiful food and reasonably priced.

Great food, had the stuffed vine leaves starter followed by the mixed souvlaki and was so satisfied, one thing I'd say the mixed souvlaki could do with a sauce on the side as it was a lot of meat to get through! My partner had tzatziki starter followed by the kleftico and the lamb on the kleftico was beautiful.

First time we've been and we'll definitely be back. Excellent food and very friendly service. Slightly disorganised at times but the place was packed and their superb attitude meant that this was easily forgiven. Would recommend this place to anybody.

Absolutely brilliant. Never been before and booked online for Sunday dinner. We were with friends from the midlands staying in Filey and got there at our allotted time. The process was brilliant, taken to our table, ordered drinks and food and these were brought out promptly. The carver was superb, all hot and fresh and the staff were excellent, good humoured and very attentive. The location is excellent and even the weather was glorious. Will definitely be going back and would highly recommend. 10/10

Always the best food and really good service.

Unfortunately we had an awful experience. The service was amazing, the girls were so friendly and attentive and the pub itself is great! But the restaurant has a real problem with flies. We had Sunday lunch and there were a few flies around and a fly catching device that was covered in dead flies right next to our table where we’d be eating. A bit unappetising but obviously we let it go. As soon as our food arrived THE FLIES SWARMED and began dive bombing in our food, even landed on my sisters plate. Not very relaxing or pleasant constantly swatting flies away. We gave up eating the food and left, in and out within 40 minutes!! Should have sat outside and had pizza in the sun as that looked lovely. All in all would not recommend going for Sunday lunch. The waitress apologised but I’m a bit disappointed they didn’t offer to move us or offer a discount/anything as a constellation.

Food was delicious as always! Service very prompt and all the right measures in place! A real fave for our family!

My wife and I had an excellent meal at 31 Castlegate. We were very well looked after and made to feel very welcome. We felt very safe in the restaurant. The food was delicious and special, and we really enjoyed the experience of eating out again. This was the first time we had eaten out since March.

It may look like your average restaurant , but Aegean Taverna is anything but! I ate here with with my husband, staff couldn’t be more helpful, explained the menu, offered suggestions and were helpful and friendly! The food WAS INCREDIBLE! We couldn’t finish it all, as we certainly over ordered after wanting to sample everything on the menu, We had the meat platter for two, but heck it was delicious. Although we found out we couldn't eat it all, but still managed to squeeze the rum baba desert in. We ate on a Saturday evening booking a table was a painless and very quick, and by the time we left it was filling up - will certainly book again SOON. All the staff wore face masks and hand sanitiser was available. I can’t believe it took me so long to try here.

Love this restaurant- always great food and service It was the first restaurant we visited once lockdown restrictions eased! Highly recommended

My daughter and son in law were up from London and were keen to revisit the Ship having good memories of its welcoming excellent service. We booked a table for lunch on Saturday August 2nd and were not disappointed. Safety corona virus regulations were followed but the welcome was just as good. We enjoyed lunch from a good varied menu, loved the seating arrangement, the drinks and the friendly efficient service. 10/10 to Charlie and Lou amd thanks for another happy memory of Sewerby Ship!

We were visitors to York for one night. York seems to have plenty of cafes for cake & coffee but we wanted a lovely evening meal for our first night away after lock down . Didnt want to risk finding one by chance on a Friday night so booked Castlegate. Good welcome,menu & food. Tables well spaced. Enjoyed our evening, would return.

Lovely location, great service and good food. COVID precautions clear, but I don't consider it necessary to use all disposable tableware!

I took my mum for Sunday lunch. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the meal was disappointing. The leek sauce was split, the base for the Mediterranean tart was soggy and the sausage meat looked undercooked. My mum did enjoy the Turkey though. We paid by cash then in the evening got a phone call saying their records showed we hadn't paid which upset my mum. I love the pub itself but think next time I will opt for the pizza outside because they looked great

We have been getting Sunday Lunch from the Ship since lockdown started, not had a complaint about any thing. All meals arrived hot and (lucky for me) with a very full plate. After lockdown eased we decided to book a meal at the Ship Inn instead. We were met at the entrance and shown to our table, service was excellent the meal just as good. A big well done to all staff who really have got on top of a very difficult situation. Book again for the coming Sunday.
