Cambio De Tercio – KensingtonGeales is not the same place it was when we first went there ten years ago, but is still worth a trip nonetheless- new owners have updated the menu (but not to worry, the old standards are still there)- the atmosphere is of a small country cottage with some celebrity photos positioned where they would be noticed (it appears Sir Elton had a birthday party there a few years back)- Do get there early or be sure to book in advance as the place seems to always be filled up by 6:30
Geales Restaurant – KensingtonThis is our favourite chippy, tucked into somewhat of a residential area near Bloomsbury (hence many of the customers seem to be from the academic world) - they always have a special lager and ale of the day that goes well with the haddock and chips- the black currant sorbet for dessert is a favourite of my wife's- I love the rather "gnarly" looking taxidermied trout in the front part of the dining room and a rather ancient looking stuffed pike towards the rear-
North Sea Fish Restaurant – BloomsburyThis place is one of the best dining deals in London- very low cost considering its South Kensington location- wonderful potato pancakes, perogis, and all forms of reasonably priced comfort food from Poland- desserts are a high point, as is their selection of flavoured vodkas- the atmosphere is one of cold war Poland; it seems like the type of place where a spy might indeed "come in from the cold"!
Daquise – KensingtonMy wife and I really enjoy this place- the Gypsy quick dish and veal goulash are good choices- wild cherry soup and fish dumplings made great starters, and the poppy streudel is a real treat- atmosphere has a sense of a "scholarly" reading room- make sure you book in advance; service is noticeably better if you do!
Gay Hussar – SohoThe food here is wonderfully authentic, with a variety of dishes from all over the former USSR- soups are great, and their chicken kiev is cooked to a delightful deep golden brown and loaded with garlic!-desserts don't meet the quality of the entrees, but were perfectly fine-Don't be put off by its location in the basement of a lower end hotel- its worth the effort to seek this place out!
Erebuni – Bayswater and PaddingtonWe have found the Punjab to be a cut above the rest of the more typical London curry houses- service is a tad friendlier than in many similar restaurants, and every dish we have ever had there has been at best superior and at worst above average- the steaming lemon scented napkins at the end of the meal are a nice touch! Their Tandoori items are great too!
Punjab – HolbornWonderful atmosphere- a must for any Anglophile- excellent starters and entrees, especially the venison and beef steak- desserts are a bit of a letdown, but were still quite acceptable- great background music, mostly circa 1940's
Maggie Joness Restaurant – KensingtonI don't know why anyone said that this place was expensive before because for what you get it's the complete opposite. Only downside is the usual wait for food (don't go if you're in a hurry) but the food tastes fantastic!
Aladdin – East LondonBest summer venue in London the food beer atmosphere and style of venue was awesome
House Pub and Dining Room – IslingtonThe best pub in the docklands, a friendly service, moderately priced and a superb pub atmosphere.
Cat and Canary – DocklandsThis it was the right place to eat fresh fish and it is amazing place
Le Chef Masgouf – Bayswater and PaddingtonI am crazy about Italian food and in most Italian restaurants the food is good, however, this restaurant overtakes them with the quality of food and atmosphere. I had a wonderful dinner the staff were friendly and warm and the food was perfect. I would recommend it to anyone that appreciates Italian cuisine as much as I do.
Zonzo Restaurant – Bayswater and PaddingtonThe Abeno restaurant in Bloomsbury was our first taste of Japanese food! We did not know what to expect, maybe something like raw fish? Anyway, there was delicious sake hot rice wine and we tried an aubergine starter, which we had to have more of, before proceeding to the main rice course. We didn't eat some of the lovely omelette like dishes being served to others, cooked on the hotplate tables but they looked and smelt really appetising. Our rice dish was very tasty, but we aren't sure what it was called. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience and recommend this very special authentic Japanese food to everyone. Most of the customers were Japanese, which is a good sign. We will be back to explore some more when we have found a Japanese friend to accompany us.
Abeno – BloomsburyI wondered about the name of this classy restaurant, and after I have tried ditalini alla puttanesca I couldn? stop licking my moustache.. I think that everyone should have a try! by the way try to search the meaning of their name on an Italian dictionary I? sure you will enjoy it better.
La Figa Restaurant – DocklandsWow............. didn? think you could have a very nice and tasty doner take away in the west end for very cheap in this day an age. Excellent value for money, very good food.
Cyprus mangal – WestminsterKasturi offers the best Indian food in the City. Great dishes that you can rarely find elsewhere and the service is always with a smile. They regularly have special events and they offer a service where you can book to go into the kitchen and watch your meal cooked on Mondays and Tuesdays if you book in advance. Highly recommended.
Kasturi – CitySituated in an ideal position in Northwest London (Edgware Road), Shishawi is the best place which can offer the best of the Egyptian Cuisine. With foods ranging from traditional starters, to top of the range dishes, I'd recommend anyone who is into Egyptian food specifically & Arabic food in general to visit. Don't forget that it also offers Shisha, which is a real highlight for any person who visits Egypt- and for virtually all Egyptian youths.
