Bosco – Lytham
Away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, Lytham holds essential ingredients. The Windmill, Lytham Green, Lytham Hall and the River Ribble estuary overlooking the Welsh mountains are all worthy of a postcard. A host of up-market restaurants will tickle your tastebuds.
very good food and the service was excellent .
Bosco – LythamThe latest Lytham venture is a success! We went there on Friday and place was full. It had a really warm and welcoming atmosphere that evening. In the day I want to sit in the window seat that looks over the square and down the main drag. Love the ceiling lighting in Bosco, very Big Brother (Orwell not C4). The menu is mainly Italian and I guess the style is Pizza Express. I had a Rustica Pizza which was served on a wooden platter and was excellent. My dining companions also enjoyed their meals. Prices were reasonable and I will go back in the daytime next time!
Bosco – LythamNot recommended We (6) recently dined at Ego. The food was tasteless, dry, looked unappealing, the waitress very clearly very inexperienced, service woefully slow (we waited at least 20 minutes for our drinks at the table and even then did not get the requested jug of water) and drinks ridiculously over-priced. The total bill came to £184.00, the food comprising only of 5 starters and 6 mains (max price £9.00)!!!!! I was shocked and disappointed (as this was a surprise birthday treat for my partner) and will not recommend on this experience. Sorry.
Ego Mediterranean Restaurant – LythamTop quality ruby house with very attentive service. A good place to eat in peace without the plonkers of lytham larging it about the place.
Red Fort – LythamWe ate here last Sunday and felt I had to comment on the excellent food. I had a chicken tikka balti and have to say it was the best I have ever had, and I've eaten a few!! I did feel it was a little on the expensive side though, we had the sunday meal deal costing £9.95 each but by the time we had added naan breads, popadums and drinks etc we spent over £45 for 2 adults and 2 small children. We will definitely eat there again but maybe just get a takeaway in future and eat in on special occasions.
Red Fort – LythamNo doubt, Ego Lytham certainly looks fantastic and the staff are excellent. However I was not impressed with the food. Mussels were all closed and had to send them back. Steak asked for a medium, was raw inside. Sent it back. Manager was very pleasant and appeared to be concerned but I'm not sure. They always say if you have one bad meal you should always try again, just incase. But to be honest. I think I'll give it a miss and stick to Portofino in future.
Ego Mediterranean Restaurant – LythamAte at Ego last night - to be honest it was disappointing - we had been told by others that this was the case but decided to try anyway - the starters were ok but the main courses were overcooked -although we weren't charged for the fishcakes it rather spoiled the evening. We eat out often in Lytham and this is the only time we have been disappointed by the food -It is a great shame as the building, atmosphere & staff were all excellent - just the food wasn't all it should have been - sadly
Ego Mediterranean Restaurant – LythamThe restaurant really adds a sense of style to what had been one of the more run down streets in Lytham, lovely exterior and the inside is very stylish. Food ingredients are good quality but the finished dishes are uninspired. Service is excellent but the evening we dined the manager was addressing her "troops" within the restaurant area and we were able to hear perfectly how to "push" the appetizers and the level of competition between the various outlets. Best kept for backstage we felt. An adequate place to dine, but not special enough to trouble other local restaurants.
Ego Mediterranean Restaurant – LythamWonderful food in a welcoming environment
Fancy That – LythamBest kebabs in the north west by far
Ahmet Turkish Kebab House – Lytham8 of us ate at Ego to celebrate one of my girlfriend's birthdays. The restaurant is beatifully decorated both inside and out and the staff are extremely friendly. The bar staff let us taste the wine before choosing which I have not experienced before. The menu was interesting and we had no trouble deciding what to eat. We opted for several sharing boards as starters which were nicely put together and reasonable value for money. Not good value, reasonable value! I had Sea Bass as a main. It was cooked nicely but there wasn't a great deal of it. If you want anything to accompany your meal, you must order it separately. This does bump the price up though! The general consensus of opinion amongst our group of girls was that the food was OK. But no better. It's also expensive. That seems to be the opinion of everyone else I know who has been to Ego, with the exception of a couple of friends who have been there early enough to take advantage of the special offers. Which is a pity because it really is a lovely environment in which to eat. So if you are thinking of going, make sure you book in advance and get there in time to take advantage of the fixed price menus.
Ego Mediterranean Restaurant – LythamI took my family (two children included in the party) to this restaurant on 26th August for a birthday lunch. The surroundings are very pleasant to say the least but I do have to say the food didn't match up to the ambience of the restaurant. Two courses took an hour and forty to deliver. It is obvious that the establishment is too busy delivering it's "Rapido" menu at lunch time and if you are eating A la Carte be prepared for a considerable wait for food that can only be described as mediocre for the prices they charge. My main course was the pork saltimbocca which to be truthful was over cooked and dry, the parma ham surrounding the pork fillet was cremated in parts. The risotto which accompanied the dish was more than al dente. One of the party had boeuf Bourginon which had an overpowering flavour of smoked bacon, this in ifself obliterated the other flavours of the dish. I would have to say in fairness I would to return to try the rapido menu but would certainly spend my money elsewhere if it came to a la carte choices. In summary, mediocre food at high end prices. There are other eateries in Lytham that surpass Ego.
Ego Mediterranean Restaurant – LythamWhether you want a coffee and a cake, a snack or more substantial meal or maybe a glass of wine, then Java could be the place for you. It is simply but elegantly decorated and has a lovely atmosphere. There are always a couple of fresh flower arrangements which adds a lovely touch. I love the coffee (Illy) and the cakes are divine. The menu somehow manages to cater to whatever mood you are in and ranges from breakfasts through to sandwhiches, pizzas, salads and some delicious italian inspired mains. I've been many times and nearly worked my way through the menu. Nothing has disappointed me yet! And I really like the way they serve wine in decent glasses! On a nice day you can sit outside on the piazza and watch the world go by. Java is the only cafe in Lytham I now visit! Highy recommended!
Java – LythamWe have been going to this restaurant since it opened. It is excellent food, good value for money and the owners are always friendly and efficient. It has become a benchmark by which we measure other restaurants. Whenever we have anyone visiting, we always take them to the '88' for a meal. Our last visit was on 16/08/2009 and as expected the standard was excellent.
Eighty Eight Chinese Restaurant – LythamDefinitely the best fish and chips we've eaten. Light batter and very juicy fish, although the "extra large haddock" (which was smaller than the "large cod"), wasn't really that large! The flavour and texture were spot-on though. Chips were delicious and there was no greasy after-taste, as is often the case with many fish restaurants (thick fatty batter). Highly recommended, but Whelans - please check out those portion sizes!
Whelans – LythamTook my good lady to Ego in Lytham on its second night of trading. Firstly I was surprised to see how busy it was, luckily the manager found us a table. The service was professional as I expected. The venue has a contemporary feel but still manages to exude a Mediterranean vibe. The Al fresco area is perfect for the summer months and I think you can drink in the bar without having to eat. The menu was short and sweet and truly I could have chosen anything off it. Mousaka and a veggie Tagine with a chorizo starter were our choices. Next time the meatballs or beef bourguignon. The Chianti to accompany the food did the job. Looking forward to being a regular.
Ego Mediterranean Restaurant – LythamGreat new menu and pizza selection. Consistent and good value with this new diners card.
Pizza Express – LythamI am not recommending this restaurant, in fact quite the opposite! I went with 11 friends for a birthday party last night and the service and the food was absolutely atrocious! I have been to Portofino several times before, the service has been poor in the past but last night was terrible. We had to wait over two hours for our main course, one of my friends was served mussels of which two were closed which is an absolute no-no, they made several mistakes with the orders so all in all a disaster.
