scottydog

Recommended by a colleague, we have been here twice within 6 weeks and is one of our most favourite places to eat in Manchester. The menu is excellent and caters for all tastes; I especially liked the steamed mussels in a bag whilst my wife loved the cod with chunky chips - not forgetting the home made custard tart which was amazing! Fresh food, brilliant friendly service, relaxed atmosphere - we hope it doesn? get too big for its own good!

Most certainly one of the best steaks I have had in a long time - extremely fresh and cooked exactly to my liking. The wine list is comprehensive but slightly expensive but as it was a special night we decided to push the boat out and go for a good quality red which was fantastic. It? a little bit too dark in the restaurant which is a shame and when we went the heating was broken so a little chilly. A good recommendation for all those who like quality wine and superb steaks but be prepared to pay for it.

As an aficionado of their establishment in Bollington I'd been meaning to try Stock for some time. I'm glad to say it didn't disappoint. The starter had an intense flavour & the main course of venison & mash was delicious. The wine was extensive and the Sardinian Red was excellent. As with Bollington there's a vast choice of grappa. How about one with truffles in though?!

Me and my friend go regularly and we always have a nice time and food is excellent.

It was quite awkward getting to the food and I felt quite rushed (bill was given before it was requested), but this is understandable for a Saturday evening really. The food was nice, a good selection with some interesting extras such as the cone shaped bundle of sushi wrapped in seaweed. Most impressive were the cocktails at a bargain £2.50! I had the 'wonderful island,' which I can't find a recipe for but it was absolutely delicious!

People who read guide books and want a Chinese in Manchester go to the Yang Sing, where they are treated like cattle, squashed into a tiny space, get average food, dreadful service and eye-watering prices. People who live in Manchester and want a really special Chinese meal go to the Pacific, which is Manchester's finest, bar none. The food is superb and a million miles away form the identikit Chinatown menu. The staff are polite, helpful and attentive. The room is stylish and welcoming. And the prices, while higher than you would pay in one of the many alternatives nearby, are not at all unreasonable given the quality of the offering. I simply cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough.

We are from Birmingham but on a recent weekend stay in Manchester my boyfriend and I visited this restaurant on a Saturday night. We had not booked a table but were seated straight away and felt that the food was delicious and the service great. All the tables had candles which we felt was a nice touch. We will definitely visit again if we are in Manchester. Lovely food, cosy romantic atmosphere and very friendly and attentive staff. I would definitely recommend to others.

Friendly staff & atmos, decent enough food w' some new ideas reasonably priced = pleasant Tex-Mex/Mexican. future plans sound good, especially breakfast; deserves to prosper. ate a few different times, always something else, never been really disappointed. is it only whole beans in the burrito? that's what i had with my veggie one and didn't note refried option, might be me (regular size not very generous but go large option pricey). salsa verde needs work, but the pico de gallo & guacamole both OK. chicken quesadilla alright, chips quite salty. easy to read menu, attractive sounding red meat dishes. (vegetarian & salad-lovin') American companion not overly struck but appreciates the context. are soft tacos in the pipeline? would calling the tortilla chips and salsa what they are be OK, rather than nachos and salsa? we're not that thick surely! still, a labour of love, bravo.

This has become my Friday lunch time favourite, working 15 mins outside town I make the trip in to town especially to sample their Veggie burrito (a large one every now and again) it's delicious. Can't fault anything, food, staff, atmosphere and it's also great value. LOVE IT.

Gaucho Grill

Went to the Gaucho Grill following recommendations from this site, we weren't disappointed. It was a bit quiet and empty on a Saturday afternoon (didn't even look like it was open!), although this didn't detract from our experience and enjoyment. My husband has deemed his steak the best he's ever eaten, which is high praise indeed. My food was great too, although my only niggle would be that the mushrooms in my dish were cold and I dont think it was intentional! The Argentian bottled beer was lovely! the meal was pricey - £85 for the two of us, for 2 courses and several bottles of beer, but we thought it was worth it. Would strongly recommend and will be back!

I have just moved into the Northern Quarter and stumbled across the Sweet Mandarin. The staff were so friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed the dinner from the Beat the Clock menu and the Sun Lik beer. I would highly recommend this place if you want a friendly, quick and delicious meal at a very reasonable price. Luke.

Went for first time today at lunch time and had lovely French onion soup with nice fresh bread followed by chicken and plenty of new potatoes. Lovely room and nice surroundings. Will go regularly now

Visited the rajjas just recently, and sorry to say the standard has slipped. although still nicely presented the food is not what it used to be .signature dishes seem to have disappeared, certainly the lovely spiced poppadom starters had vanished. still good but definitely not the best. sorry.

Very good food and atmosphere. Far better than the false food and feel of La Tasca. and the waitresses were very nice to. What? They were!

On entering The English Lounge, you'd be forgiven for thinking you had mistakenly walked into a typical English Pub. The crowd that greeted us seemed to be more interested in relaxing with a drink at the ground floor bar than the traditional English Food we'd come in search of. However, we were led upstairs to the dining area, which is dominated at one end by shelves of Old Books, and decorated elsewhere with Miro and Picasso prints. The buzzy and informal atmosphere makes this restaurant a popular choice for groups as well as couples. I did like the Bar, which was beautifully organized, and well stocked! The food is as British as you'll get, with no concessions to modernity or multiculturality. Expect to see classics such as traditional soups, and roasted meat joints, with all the trimmings. I chose Steak in a lovely peppercorn sauce, whilst my brother opted for one of the menu's more popular choices (as lead to believe by the lovely waiter!) Chicken and Pasta. The waiter taking our order said "The better choice, sir", making my brother beam, and me glower. I dread to think what he would have said if I'd asked for a vegetarian meal. Much as I hate to admit it, the waiter was right. While the Steak was beautifully presented, it was slightly swamped by the excessively rich sauce and completely over-powered by the strong peppercorn topping, the thin slices of chicken in the Pasta and Chicken, where flavoursome and melt-in-the-mouth. Accessorised with crispy fresh salad, it was textbook perfect. With water and wine (from £12/bottle for house white and red to just under £12.50, expect to pay around £15-18 per person for three courses, drinks and service. I believe was a bargain, particularly as I'm not one for the "Authentic Best of British" experience.

I liked the food at Grinch although would not say it's the best I've ever had - I found the music too loud and when we asked to move from next to the stage received constant jibes from the musician playing. Not a great experience but would go to this restaurant again but not at weekend.
