Booked last minute and table available. Easy to book online. Staff very friendly and attentive. Food was beautiful. Two King Henry’s cooked to perfection, one sirloin which was tasty and a tower burger for my youngest. The food was fabulous and the kids could not resist a dessert. Fabulous choice of puddings. Only complaint I had was that it was freezing in there. I know they have to keep the area well ventilated due to Covid guidelines but it was so cold and draughty that I had to put a blanket on my daughter so she could eat her dinner! Will definitely return but will wear jumpers next time!!

Ordered the Middlesbrough Parmo and unfortunately had to send it back as the chicken wasn’t cooked!! Finally received another one after my hubby and son had finished theirs. This one was just cooked through on the inside but quite dark on the outside. Very disappointed as it wasn’t busy at all.. Music base line very low and hurt our ears.

Disappointed with our visit. As soon as we pulled up me and my partner turned to each other and said she shall we just get a take away and go home. Years a go it use to be a really nice pub, nice to look at and a lovely place to go. Just from the outside we could tell it had gone down hill and it was just your everyday pub now. As we booked a table we went in. Walking to the table my feet were sticking to the floor. We ordered through the app and the food did come quickly, however the drinks did not. The food was ok, I wouldn’t say it’s worth the price of it and the steak fajitas were bland. We didn’t stick around for pudding as we then saw lots of dead flies on the side as well. Wouldn’t recommend.

The Old Red Lion. Great service , great food and a great price. The staff are happy and welcome you with a smile, nothing is too much trouble. Really looking forward to a return visit.

This has always been our favourite place and we choose here as our first to go to out of Sheilding. I've heard lots from friends that have been to 'restaurants' lately regarding the 50% capacity rule, meaning no one is anywhere near them, a rule for entering & exiting meaning no-one comes near you, waitrers/waitresses having to use napkins to carry your plates so they don't directly touch your plate. So it came to us going out to The Red Lion, none of the things above applied here, people queue at the door to go in, no spacing marked out, we moved to the side, but people followed us. We chose our own table, some tables we quite close together, the staff were friendly, and created a lovely environment however there was no effort in distancing while delivering our food, the plates were being handle directly and there was no need to get so close when placing it down, we did move to the side to create a bit if space due to feeling uncomfortable. I ordered the butterfly chicken which unfortunately was over cooked and quite difficult to cut through with a steak knife, and the mushroom sauce was very bland & luke warm, I didn't want to make a fuss, my husband had scampi and really enjoyed his, but we ate up and left. On our way out, due to the building its the same entrance & exit, however there were so many people queuing together waiting to come in. Every table was in use, which we didn't expect due to the capacity ruling?! We held back for a minute to see what would happen as we were heading for the exit but no one moved, so we reluctantly had to walk straight through the people. It has put us right off eating out again for a while. Friends have said this is really unfortunate as their experience in different restaurants is completely different.

Amazing food, great value for money and despite the social distancing restrictions a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere

Lovely food and great service

Visited for Sunday lunch. The welcome was very friendly, the food was absolutely excellent, we could not fault a thing. We have booked in again for Wednesday this week. Because of lockdown this was our first visit for quite some time. The previous excellent standards have not dropped and the value for money is still first class - thank you very much.

Lovely front of house service, friendly and helpful staff. Portion sizes were plenty and everyone thought their meal was nice.

Looking at the latest reviews, I think maybe me and my partner just caught them on a bad day? We used to dine here over 10 years ago and the food went down hill as the prices went up so we stopped. We were told by a friend that this place was great again so we thought we’d give it a go. Staff were lovely, there was a bit of an issue with wasps this particular day but the manager saw the funny side of my irrational fear and let me change tables 3 times to get away. I ordered chicken and rib combo and the other half got the Mighty Man mixed grill. As soon as my meal was placed on the table I instantly saw the breast had been cooked to within an inch of its life and was like a rock. I ‘sawed’ into it but couldn’t eat it. The Pork belly bites were like rubber bullets (although a couple were fine). I have to say though, the ribs were DELICIOUS and the meat fell off the bone. I basically ate the ribs and 4 pork belly bites and left the rest (the chips weren’t great either so I didn’t eat them. My other half’s mixed grill wasn't great either. The onion rings were soggy, the liver was like show leather and the steak was chewy. My other half said the lamb chop was ok but the sausage had a ‘sour’ taste. The glasses were really dirty well, I say dirty I think they just weren’t rinsed properly as they were streaky and ‘milky’ looking (usually lime scale does this - I worked for a glass washing company so I’m a bit of a nerd with such things lol). The decor needs an update, the same chairs are still in use from when we were last there many years ago and it shows as the padding is worn and uncomfortable. I spoke to the manager on the way out and told him our food was on the table if he wanted to have a look. He explained it was the Chefs last day and perhaps he was a bit slap dash.. I definitely would not have let that chicken leave the kitchen. He offered us a drink or dessert but we declined his offer and reiterated to him how lovely they (him and the staff) were and how delicious the ribs were. I think the place just needs a bit of TLC I don’t think we’ll go back again, well not while the wasps have taken up residence anyway lol Lovely staff, poor food... sorry

Lovely meal , great rapid service , staff were polite , friendly and helpful. Social distancing measures in place and really good. I was especially impressed to notice the waiter used the hand gel every time he went in and out the door whilst serving people.

What can I say brilliant meal great value for money the steaks just perfect certainly will be back

We booked for late lunch about 2pm. Very busy, the phone was ringing off the hook. I guess it’s because of the ‘eat out’ deal. We waited a little while for the food but we were chatting and everybody was so busy looking after all the customers, it was quite understandable. Definitely worth the wait though, the food is always excellent, but even better than usual, no short cuts. I can’t recommend it highly enough. The staff are exceptional, and never make you feel rushed or uncomfortable. Lovely people, great food and still a really enjoyable dining experience. Go there!

Have been going here for over 30 years and have always loved it until now. A waste of £70. They advertise the eat out to help out but don't give it to you. Only 1 person doing drinks so you wait until you have finished your meal. If you want salt pepper vinegar ketchup mayo etc take your own. If you don't like staff talking to you to check if your Meal is okay or if you need anything or to say anything to you, this place is perfect. If you like your staff rude when you try to ask them for a drink after 45 minutes of waiting. Then get booking your table.

Tables were dirty, no sanitisation of anything, no social distancing, not COVID safe at all! We never ate as booked a table, wasn’t given menus & then told by the extremely rude manager that there was 1 hour 45 min wait Will not return, very dirty & unsafe!
