The Old Gate Inn – MatlockThe Gate is my local pub but I would certainly travel to this pub for a drink or a meal in its lovely authentic olde worde interior and large garden with views. The Sunday lunch my son and I had yesterday was superb. The beef was cooked to perfection and very tender and was complimented by creamy, buttery mashed potatoe, crispy toasties, roasted carrots and parsnips and delightful medley of cabbage, brands and peas., and the piece de resistance, tasty beef gravy with which to fill a huge Yorkshire pud - just as I like it with a soft bottom and crispy top. We added cauliflower cheese which was delicious. The portions were generous but not over-facing and we came out of the pub feeling full and happy. The Merlot was a perfect accompaniment to the meal.
The Old Gate Inn – MatlockVery nice food.very pleasant staff Music was good as well
The Old Gate Inn – MatlockBeautiful pub ! The staff were professional, friendly and attentive :) the food was bang on and I'll definitely be coming back :D thank you ! Sorry about my dad, he thinks he's a cheeky chappy when in reality he just comes off as rude !
The Old Gate Inn – Matlock5 star!
The Old Gate Inn – MatlockWe had a fabulous meal at this unassuming village pub. The catch of the day was expertly cooked with nice accompaniments. Service was excellent too. Felt really welcome!
The Old Gate Inn – MatlockIf you want an arty farty bit of food in the middle of your plate that's finished in 3 or 4 mouthfuls, then this is not the place for you. If you want great Sunday roast with all the trimmings, well cooked and enough of it, then book in as you wont be disappointed. Cracking place. Take a jumper though as it can be a bit chilly as its a stone built pub. Not cold enough for the fires to be on as its summer, but until the place fills with punters it can be a bit nippy. We will definitely be back. Staff great also and manager welcomes each table personally which is a nice touch.
The Old Gate Inn – MatlockStayed in a holiday cottage just down the road so was ideally situated for an evening meal. Made to feel very welcome. The food was very good and the desserts very nice. I was drinking the marstons pedigree which was excellent.
The Old Gate Inn – MatlockStaying in the village we visited the olde gate on three occasions, the food served was excellent, one of our group is vegetarian and she found the vegetarian options very good, staff and very friendly and helpful and this is an excellent old pub , all in all good value for money and would recommend a visit
The Old Gate Inn – MatlockWhat a pretty pub this is, right in the heart of the Chatsworth Estate. We sat in the beer garden with a lovely bottle of Macon and some nibbles, girding ourselves for the stroll over to Chatsworth. Seemed very popular for Sunday lunch and I think you can stay over here too.
The Devonshire Arms – MatlockFantastic food and friendly staff, highly recommended.
