It was our second visit to the restaurant. The service was excellent and the serving staff were very attentive and explained what the different dishes contained. We went for the curry platters - the prawn one in particular was excellent. The food is quite different to Indian food and brought back memories of our wonderful holiday in Sri Lanka and the food we enjoyed there. I would recommend it to everyone who wants to try spicy (but not necessarily hot) food and is a bit tired with what is on offer at other restaurants. Give it a go and I'm sure you'll be back for more.

What an amazing meal! I saw in article in the Derby Telegraph recently and immediately told my husband this was the place I wanted to visit for my birthday. I can’t remember the last time food made me feel this happy! We had starters and main courses but had to politely decline complimentary birthday desserts because we were both stuffed. The cocktails are lovely as is the wine we chose (I can’t remember the name but it’s the vegan white) The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and the staff are super friendly and attentive, we’ve missed the amazing Sri Lankan hospitality that made us fall in love with the country. We’re already looking forward to returning with friends and family.

We first came across Colombo Street at Kedleston Hall whilst visiting a food fair a couple of years ago. I remember being blown away by how good the food was and how lovely and smiley the two guys were that served us. Fast forward two years and they now have a lovely new restaurant near the Lace Market in Nottingham which is most definitely worth a visit. The curries my husband and I had were both delicious!! Full of flavour, and best of all, accompanied with delicious sides of coconut, dahl and coriander relish which brought the flavours alive. Every mouthful was like a little explosion of three or four different flavours. So much more interesting than the traditional Indian curries that we're all used to now. The rotis were fab too. I wish these guys every success. They've chosen to open a restaurant during difficult times and I really hope it pays off for them. We shall be making the trip from Ashbourne to Nottingham as frequently as possible and hoping that one day soon they have a second branch in Derby!! Good luck guys. x

Discovered Colombo street on a Friday night visit to Nottingham city. The restaurant is in a calm location and is stylishly furnished with fantastic artwork creating a relaxing atmosphere. Our friendly waitress Divia helped us menu choices of authentic Sri Lankan food. The dishes were tasty and great for sharing if visiting with friends also well presented in cute little bowls for the side making this a great dining experience.

Food was fantastic as a vegan loads of choice and having been to Sri Lanka was definitely as good as food there and very authentic. Love for the food and culture showed in the food. Service was really quick and professional and friendly and excellent value for money

I have nothing to fault about this place. The atmosphere was lovely, staff were friendly and the food is just spectacular! I have never tried kotthu in the UK as good at it is in Sri Lanka, up until now. Already planning another visit a week later!

So glad we chose to try out Colombo street last weekend. Stunning food and lovely service. You really appreciate how much hard work has gone into this place. Can’t wait to come back and try even more of the menu, would highly recommend.

We visited Colombo Street for the first time this weekend and I must say, the food, service and atmosphere was brilliant. It was my first time trying Sri Lankan food. I can’t wait to visit again!

I have visited numerous Sri Lankan restaurants in the UK, but Colombo Street is in a league of its own. The interior of the restaurant has been tastefully decorated to create an authentic Sri Lankan theme. The staff, although new, were attentive but not intrusive. The small but carefully thought out menu did not disappoint, with my highlight being the mutton curry and roti. A great addition to the Notts restaurant scene!

What a fabulous and authentic Sri Lankan experience. We absolutely loved the food in particular the egg hoppers were just so good as was the kottu and the calamari was melt in your mouth delicious. Combined with a lovely atmosphere and welcoming staff who were very attentive we had a beautiful evening. We will definitely be back with more family and friends well done Colombo Street superb and local too what more could we want!
