Hubby took me here for a late birthday treat - he'd been going to book Tanners but I thought it was a bit too formal. This was perfect, you still feel looked after, not chain pub at all, but it is informal & the menu accessible, even to fussy hubby! Everything we ate was incredible, & the reasonably priced wine list was good with the Shiraz we chose being outstanding. The Duck (unfortunately not my meal) was the best, literally the best that either of us have ever tasted & we do like to eat a lot. What's more, we do like to complain if things aren't just so, & apart from being a little warm in the restaurant (bearing in mind it's also very mild outside) there was absolutely nothing I'd change.

As visitors to Plymouth we were lucky to stumble upon the Zeus Restaurant. A small, busy really & friendly restaurant, with a very good food and excellent staff. We dined there twice, and on both occasions enjoyed both the food & unpretentious atmosphere

We visited the Rose and Crown for the first time, just a few days ago. We regularly drive past it on the way to Plymouth and have said on many occassions "we must try this place". After checking the "pub" out on their website they make reference to an outside area suitable for children and generally gave the impression that this was probably a child friendly place. How wrong we were! We booked a table by telephone without any problem, I asked for a table in the family room as we had two small children (5 & 7 years), but told that the family room was "all booked out", oh well we'll in the main eating area. On arrival at the "pub" instead of the traditional pub style we were expecting my Husband and I just looked at each other - we have entered a restaurant! How can this be - it's just won Pub of the Year? Maybe it was entered in the wrong category? Onto the table - "Do you have a childrens menu" I ask "no" is the reply "you can choose something from the normal menu and we will make it smaller" she continues. At this point we wonder if we should stay and discuss finishing our drinks and leaving, I can't give a five year old a Thai Green curry or other exotic things - don't get me wrong I don't want them to have nuggetts and chips either, but something a little plainer would be more suitable for their tiny tummies. Instead we plump for the sausages and crushed potatoes, which my son (7) enjoyed but my daughter could not tolerate - covered in gravy, too salty for her. This review must sound pretty bad at this point, and for us it was. However if we had not had the children with us I would probably have left saying what a fantastic meal we'd had. My recommendation must be made to the Rose and Crown - please, please, please ensure you make it clear to the public, you are not suitable for younger children, despite having a secret garden for them to play safely in!

A friend and i visited this lovely restaurant on a Wednesday evening about 5.30pm before it got busy and would highly recommend it. We were within time to still have the lunch menu (at a special offer) and so we both opted for a tagine and a drink for about £6. I had the prawn one and it was lovely. the service was great. The waitress sat down with us and told us what each dish was. Definitely go for the orange cake! You may need more than one dish each though (we felt satisfied only because we had had the cake too) definitely a place just to chill out in a lovely atmosphere in early evening or lunch or in a group it would be a lively place in the evening. Tables are a bit uncomfortable to eat at as they are so small but i suppose you just eat in a more relaxed fashion! An excellent restaurant.

Went here on a girls night out for work. Was very impressed by the food (and the cost of the jugs of margherita!) Was a lively atmosphere and the tequilla bar was good too. Prices were a little more expensive than we'd expected (Lorenzo's is better value) but this place had a lively atmosphere and a good varied choice available.

Veggie Perrins is my favourite restaurant, the food is cooked with love and is always fantastic(actually better than meals i had in india-fact!). The atmosphere is chilled and Bill is a legend. I just wish there was one in Falmouth as travelling two hours for a curry isn't always practical, but it's worth it!

Without the best place in the South West to eat Fresh fish, expertly cooked without being messed around

Cuba has a brilliant vibe and being sounded by student accommodation it is busy most days of the week. Open till 4 in the morning! Features great live performances in the upstairs bar and a good variety of music being played downstairs! (Not to mention the pole dancing challenges involving alcoholic prizes!) A++

Bravo for simplicity. Out with the fancy stuff and in with the real stuff. Plenty of understanding of what's good and how to cook it here. Difficult to choose but choose we did and wolfed down some brilliant Scallops with Bacon, Oysters, Gurnard (with Carpetbagger Sauce no less) and Salmon with a Tandoori crust. Fab. Tarte au Citron completed a lovely Autumn supper. Same goes for the well-chosen wines at modest mark-ups. Get down there!

I am a committed Bistro One regular. This has got to be THE place in town for good fresh local produce. Always friendly, always a smile and always the best food and wine, lunch or dinner. A happy refuge from a world full of mediocrity.

Went here for a meal last fri and even though they were down on staff we were treated very well didn't wait long either lovely meal and beautiful 16th C building adapted tastefully.

This restaurant is always busy, occasionally you are lucky to get a table - that in itself says something. We discovered Lanterns thanks to Plymouthian friends, and am delighted to say we've returned many times since. Good food at a good price, with friendly staff serving as fast as chefs can cook - can't ask for more.

Best restaurant in Plymouth!

We go to the Wah Tin several times a month and the food is superb every time. The service is prompt and the food hot. I can recommend the BBQ spare ribs and Chicken satay on skewer! Book on a Friday and Saturday, but just walk in other days

I had an amazing time at this restaurant, I am a vegan so called before hand to check what I could eat, instead of the usual huff I am greeted with the person who answered the phone got the chef who patiently went through the menu with me. The remembered on the night as well and made sure that not even any dips that usually came with dishes had dairy in them. I was so impressed!!!!

Excellent restaurant. Good atmosphere, attentive service and excellent food. Preferred it to Rick Stein's place in Padstow! Best sweet I have eaten in a long time and the 5 course £32 deal is a good one. Took a client who regularly eats in the best restaurants nationwide and it impressed him!

As a local who has frequented this pub several times over the years, I'm now glad to say that it consistently serves up very good pub food, including the largest fish and chips ever! No pretences, no fancy ambience, just a friendly local that does good pub food.
