Yan
if the pubs of Wirral were arranged in a football-like league table, The Anchor Inn would be in the top end of the premiership in gastronomic terms. Décor is rustic and reflects its semi-rural location. The pub is split into a dining area and a bar area and the dining section is usually busy. When asked, the serving staff invariably comment that "it's extra busy today" but it always seems to be busy and service is often "strained" as a result. The set menu is good value, but the more expensive a la carte menu provides better quality dishes. The wine list is OK, the variety of real ales on offer are well-kept.The Anchor is especially popular with over-fifties (including me) and is very very busy in the early evening. The "silver diners" start to disappear mid-evening and are replaced by a more youthful, but less numerous clientèle. Book a table later on for a quieter dining experience.
Dissatisfied Customer.
Rude waitress, when challenged on her lack of courtesy she said 'don't you start'. We wont be going back, there are plenty more places to spend our money.
feh.
As a local I visited the Anchor Inn yesterday evening ordering the lamb chops which incidentally were the dearest meal on the Menu, the meat appeared to be very good but had been spoilt by being under cooked and was virtually uneatable. The above situation was pointed out as a complaint to the Waitress when she was clearing the table with it being able to be seen how rare the meat had been cooked to, however I received no follow-up from a Senior Staff Member and this was the most disappointing aspect of my yesterday's visit to the Anchor Inn. feh, wirral.
Gee
We visit The Anchor about once a month usually at teatime on a Friday. It can be very busy and at times there isn? enough staff to cope. Saying that though, the food is varied and well presented and the surroundings are pleasant. We have never had a bad meal in there. Worth a visit!
Anchor Inn
My wifeand I wined and dined at the Anchor during a nostalgic visit to the Wirral in September 03.We were pleasantly surprised by the good standards all round. Many thanks and best wishes to the proprietor and staff.
