Basket Press Wines have set up a wine bar residency at Quince Bakery in Islington every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening from 6pm-10pm. The venue features chefs on monthly and weekly residencies showcasing a range of international cuisines such as Mauritian, Danish, Filipino and Middle Eastern - pairing their food with Central and Eastern European wines imported by Basket Press Wines. The sitting is arranged around communal tables in Quince which is a working bakery by day.
In March, they are being joined by Anna Søgaard, the former head chef of Bistro Freddie, who is going back to her Nordic roots in her new pop-up series Jomfru. The series is aptly named after the old fashioned term for women who create smørrebrød, the traditional Danish open-faced sandwiches, which features both traditional and contemporary takes on classic Danish dishes. Expect smørrebrød in the likes of fried and butter poached plaice with curry remoulade, an array of pickled herrings, and seasonal contemporary creations along with warm plates with flavours of the nordics. The menu will have a heavy focus on fish and shellfish and with weekly menu changes.
