About The Copt Hill Inn

Under new ownership since 2022, the much-loved Copt Hill Inn at Houghton-le-Spring has undergone a complete transformation. And as part of the root and branch refurbishment it’s been filled with rare memorabilia, so whilst enjoying your food and drink you can gaze upon everything from a Dumbo print signed by Walt Disney to Nigel Mansell’s racing helmet and the Beatles’ birth certificates! It’s open six days a week, plus Bank Holiday Mondays, and you can enjoy traditional bar snacks, hand-stretched dough pizzas, burgers, sharing boards, grill dishes and their signature main courses. There’s also a proper Sunday Lunch served with a weekly changing menu. The bar showcases real ales from some of the North East’s best local breweries and they serve their very own gin from their Poetic License Distillery. And then there’s the view – which stretches for miles. Well-behaved dogs are welcome too.

Not good at all ...long time for drinks, longer for 2 starters, massive wait for main meals. Turkey curry was just vegetables, chewy meat and greasy sauce . Fish ...soggy batter and cremated chips. Christmas burgers missing bacon and cranberry sauce and burgers overcooked. Pizza had standard ham not the Parma ham as listed on the menu..all in all very disappointed. Fish and curry removed from the bill .

Food was good, everyone enjoyed their meal. Service however was not good. Took forever to get served, the bill was incorrect, the staff serving us weren’t very professional (one got nicked named “stroppy” as everything seemed a problem).

Met friends for tea last night, very busy, but service and food impeccable as usual, we'll be back soon!

Had the mince and leek dumplings was very nice however no sign of any leek which made dumplings very bland. Also very disappointed there was no cheesecake for dessert. We were there at 4pm so obviously no cheesecake for the whole of evening service. Not good enough at this time of year. One of the main reasons we came was for the normally delicious cheesecake. Disappointed.

A family lunch get together. A great varied menu and reasonably priced. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. The memorabilia on the walls is great and contributes to a good atmosphere. Worth a visit!

This was a Christmas work meal out for 8 people. Everyone enjoyed the food, the service was very good and we had a great night

We had such a good night on Friday. The service and food was amazing. We had the Christmas Fayre menu and we all loved it. Pate was lovely - you get LOADS, maybe too much for the pate to bread ratio but it was lovely. Turkey was amazing, veg cooked beautifully and I had the apple / mince pie crumble and have been craving it since! Hoping to come back Monday! Only slight complaint was that it was cold by the window for some of us but it’s hard to get a happy medium with large rooms and the waiter was happy to put the heating on!

A nice place to visit. Attentive staff. But as part of a party of nine, two meals were tough, crispy around the edge’s and dry - as if they had stood under the heat lamp in the kitchen for some time prior to service.
