About Pickled Walnut

Opened in February 2020, this new West Kirby restaurant is the first high street location for caterers Pickled Walnut, who look after the food and drink offering at Caldy and Aldersey Green golf clubs, Combermere Abbey wedding venue, as well as offering other private catering services. The restaurant has been given a fresh look, with a large mural of the local marine lake looking over to North Wales, painted by local artist Jim Fleming. With a mixture of booths, comfortable seating for both tables and high chairs by the bar, Pickled Walnut offers a warm welcome for diners to enjoy the modern British menu with Mediterranean influences. Dishes are not overcomplicated with the kitchen letting the ingredients speak for themselves. The Tomahawk steak, designed to be shared by two, is already a firm favourite. There is also a comfortably sized bar which stocks Estrella, Inedit and 61 Deep as well as a full wine list, an extensive choice of spirits and a small cocktail menu. Pickled Walnut is open from 10am Wednesday to Friday for coffee and cake and then serves lunch and then dinner with the bar open until 11pm (midnight at weekends). They also serve breakfast from 8.30am on Saturday and Sunday.

Had a top meal and the service was great. Really happy that these guys are making it through 2020, and with a smile on their faces. See you in January!

Awful service but great food and generous portions (aside from the four prawns as a starter!) Staff ought to be trained on the menu contents so they are knowled about the dishes. Waitress took our drinks before we were finished and had no idea what gluten-free dishes were. No manager present. Ice tasted funny. Toilets also were appalling, cold and damp. Watered-down hand wash (especially at the moment) was very poor. Had it not been my birthday and for the fact that the food was nice, we’d have walked out. Sorry but we won’t be back.

Another great ( and safe) meal out! Space restrictions adhered to! Hopefully sometime soon we won’t be thinking about that and we’ll be raving about the busy atmosphere Thanks to all the staff x Keep going .

Had lunch on 22nd Oct. Reduced menu due to Covid but the food was absolutely lovely. My wife and I both had a soup and sandwich combo. Parsnip soup with ham hock and chicken sandwich were amazing. Spiced sweet potato and coronation chicken sandwich equally superb. Maple pecan slice and choc tiffin all washed down with a lovely latte. Would definitely recommend and will be going back.

Great atmosphere and helpful staff, our waitress was very friendly and attentive. The Sunday lunch was lovely, great home cooked feel. The veggie option was delicious too and the desserts yum. Thanks, can't wait to come back.

Went here on 29th October, intending to have the tomahawk steak, but unfortunately they had none left. However we weren't disappointed. I had the belly pork and my partner the sea bass for mains, and we both had the king prawn starter. All delicious. We just had enoufh room left for 5he sticky toffee pudding, and lefy contentedly full. Service was excellent, my only criticism was that there were no condiments on the table, a minor thing.

Went here for Sunday dinner with family. The roasts are wonderful, large portions too. We had two courses -great value and bread and butter pudding/sticky toffee pudding went down well with kids/nan! Nice atmosphere, great service.
