Visited on the 25.04.09 for the first time slick service and super smooth attentive staff who although busy made it look effortless. The food was fabulous and the best we have experienced for a long time. Seafood and Steak (Grills ) very popular and we had tried the special "thai mussells" to start and the halibut to follow all divine. Delicate sorbets and great cheeseboard on offer not forgetting to mention the complementary bread and olives at the start and the chocolate at the end. All in all a hidden gem which is very reasonably priced!! Make sure to book as very busy and you wont be disappointed!

The Pump House cannot really be faulted.
The prices, which are not cheap allow confidence in the quality of the product.
If you are really hungry, I suggest either having a some toast before you set off - or do as I do and order 2 things from each course. Makes for an expensive night - but the joy of a stomach full of gourmet food is worth every penny.
Pump House Restaurant The
A real gem of a restaurant hidden away down a back lane in picturesque Shincliffe. The decor is Malmaison meets Durham Cathedral, in a beautifully renovated Victorian pump house. The food is expensive but much better than similarly priced venues in Newcastle. Modern English food with an emphasis on steak and seafood, and divine desserts. A great place for a special meal, and walking distance to two pleasant pubs in delightful Shincliffe. Highly recommended.
