Ate there last Friday. The food was devine and the staff were on hand all the time. On top of that the food was half price with our voucher. Superb night. You know when you still have a good taste in your mouth the day after! I'll certainly be visiting again.

We have dined at The Portrait House on a number of occasions and have always enjoyed it. Recently, I held a surprise birthday party there for my wife. Everything was organised by The Portrait House and the whole event was just perfect. I cannot thank them enough. They arranged live music, welcome drinks, provided a really excellent buffet - not the usual sausage rolls and sandwiches, etc., and the price was very reasonable indeed. I wholeheartedly recommend The Portrait House.

We just an excellent meal, the staff were very friendly and efficient. The decor is very tasteful and all in all a very nice place. Very sensibly priced, the Christmas menu is fantastic. Highly recommended.

I went for a meal on a friday night at 7:30 to the 'portrait house' and it was absolutely wonderful! Having never written a review before i was compelled by my lovely experience. Great atmosphere, great menu, very high standard of food and service. Only disappointment were the puddings, sticky toffee pudding and profiteroles. They were not as superb as the rest of the food. Most likely bought in, but we were so full by then it didn't really matter! Great place - highly recommended!

We couldn't get a table at the 'normal' eating times on a saturday night so were booked in at 6. We weren't the only ones there, a large party and at least 3 other couples which shows the popularity of the place. The decor was modern and fresh but created an intimate atmosphere with a dining layout on different levels and a mixture of booths and tables. The food was fantastic! My partner had the ribs to start and they were the cleanest looking ribs after he finished! I had a very generous piece of Tuna for my main that I couldn't finish. Neither of us had space to try the puddings. To put it simply, we will be going back.

i went for a meal at the new 'portrait house' on wednesday evening with my partner. I've never written a review about a restaurant before because none have ever been quite that good. How ever my partner and i enjoyed our evening so much that i felt this was now necessary. The restaurant itself is fantastic, we were greeted instantly at the impressive front entrance and shown into the bar area where we were attentively asked for drinks by the friendly bar man. After our order was taken we were then shown into the restaurant itself... its so nice to see a set up like this where the restaurant and bar area are completely separate, fantastic!! We were given complimentary bread and flavoured butters, we felt special until we turned around and saw that every other table had this too! Our starters and main courses were piping hot and cooked to perfection, drinks were brought over to our table promptly and all in all i couldn't fault anything... except that the waitresses probably smile a bit too much!! We retired to the bar area where we enjoyed a couple of cocktails (try the daiquiri - amazing)and finished off our night. The bar man called a taxi for us and we were informed when it arrived. My partner and i both agreed that we had such a fantastic night and will be singing your praises till we return.... which wont be long. Thanks once again

Simply excellent, just what hoylake needs. No need to travel over to Liverpool now.

We had dinner here on Saturday night for the first time. We were greeted at the reception and shown through to the trendy grey and red bar area where we could enjoy drinks and peruse the menu on comfy chairs or leather bar stools. Sadly the draught Pelegrino (an impressive novelty) was not available at the time but was soon restored to service. We placed our order from a sensible sized and varied menu and were shortly shown through to the restaurant area which was similarly decorated as the bar area. Comfortable leather seats, mood lighting and slightly undersized tables for all the glassware and original slate bread/butter slabs provided but very pleasant all the same. All this complemented by a wide array of (appropriate to its name) portraits and other photography and artwork. All our menu choices were superbly cooked and served by friendly and sufficiently attentive waitresses. If we had any criticisms it would be to lay off the balsamic reduction piping which came zig-zagged over each plate - (Very passe!) and teach the staff to serve and offer tasting of wine properly. It's not difficult and would improve their service levels to "excellent" if adopted. All in all a very friendly, pleasant restaurant offering good service, wine and food at sensible prices. Suffice to say we shall be back.
