Used to be a proper canal side pub with music and eccentric locals now it is just another restaurant. Nothing is done to cater for the loyal locals who kept the pub solvent or for the music lovers who came in droves from miles around to see and hear the cream of local talent.

Meal was very nice but marred by having to wait an hour and a quarter for it. We selected an outside table and were told there was a 20 to 30 min wait. This became a one and quarter hour wait. There was no apology or explanation. The sun had long gone down and we were getting cold before the food turned up. Even then 3 meals came and the fourth one took another 10 mins.Totally unacceptable.

Dreadful Disgusting Food Dirty Cold Place!Took Mum for meal that was completely inedible. Complained to the bar maid and asked to speak to manager but was told he wasn't about. The food was badly cooked and tepid, we had fish and chips and the chips were undercooked, the fish was very greasy and the peas were cold. I was really disappointed! This pub is letting down Lancashire! It could be so much better but it seems like the person or people who own it are past caring. It is dirty, cluttered and shabby, with a complete mismatch of tables and seating etc. It's clear that the place is run on a shoestring, with no quality or care in it's food provision. The Ship is a place to AVOID!

i visited the ship on recommendation, how disappointed i was when on a Friday night only half the menu was available,i ordered the pork belly with cider gravy which was burnt on the bottom,my wife had the gammon which was ok.when i asked if the chef had worked for raymond blanc, the barmaid replied he'd left, come on ship get it together

We visited because we had a Groupon voucher but we will definitely return as fully paying customers. From the outset we got a wonderfully warm welcome, matched by the roaring log fires. My starter was a gorgeously creamy warm goats cheese with a delicious beetroot salad while my husband had a generous platter of locally smoked salmon. This was followed by mains of a succulent sirloin steak and bubbling lasagna, finished off by gorgeous creme brulee. Truly, this lovely evening brightened up the last Sunday in January. Highly recommended.

I visited on 2nd Jan just after 12. Hadn't been before and wasn't sure if it was open or serving food. Pleasantly surprised to hear that the full menu was available so sat by the roaring fire to study the menu. My wife went for the homemade lasagne and I went for the seafood linguini. My wife enjoyed hers and mine was the best I've eaten with plenty of mussels, prawns and calamari and chillies. A lovely meal, friendly staff and host - we'll definitely return.

This place appears to be a hidden secret! I went there for Sunday lunch and was highly impressed by the food quality and good real ales. I had the sirloin steak which was done to perfection - chargrilled, pink inside and very tender. My better half had the slow cooked belly pork and mash which was also tasty and tender. The cheese board I had to follow was superb but too much for one person. The staff were really friendly and helpful and there were a couple of proper fires making the pub really cosy. Great value and worth a trip out for. Apparently people mistake this for the Ship at Lathom but believe me the food is better here.
