Being new to the area, we have been sampling various restaurants to find a few favourites so we can make recommendations to our visitors. We booked the Bistro for our anniversary dinner based on the reviews. We are not fussy people but for a meal of £100 + we were disappointed. I'm happy to say my French onion soup was terrific, however scallops were unavailable - the crab starter a little bland. The salmon in the filo parcel had the skin left on - not nice. The pork dish was fine but both main courses had very little vegetables served; a quarter of a carrot and peas in stringy inedible pods. Again not pleasant. I'm pretty certain the feedback I gave to the kitchen via the waitress never reached them, as the waitresses showed little customer service or engagement - oh, until it came to the service charge which was automatically added to the bill. Sorry le Bistro you're going to have to try harder if you want our repeat business.

Lovely atmosphere, professional and friendly staff and delicious food.

Really nice meal. My wife had Scampi and I had Scallops followed by sea food parcel. All delicious. Service and atmosphere were excellent. Highly recommended.

Amazing food beautifully presented. Limited dairy free options for mains and none for desserts ( sorting that would definitely make it 5/5)

No interaction from the staff, menu and offers for the evening not explained or communicated very stern attitude from the waitress, no check to see if the meal was ok and no offer to order extra drinks, service was not good enough for this style and price of restaurant. Food however was nice.

A lovely pub with friendly staff and fabulous food. Will be visiting here again!

Amazing food

We often visit the bistro for an after-work meal — the food is delicious, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is always lovely.

We had visited the previous evening and had been very pleased and impressed with the menu choices we made, with the ambience, and with the service. So, rather than go elsewhere in the area we chose to return for a second evening. We were not disappointed. On arrival , a young man with a lovely voice and manner welcomed us, took our dri ks order and menu choice with much personal confidence. Very impressive. We ordered Greek style feta and salad pasta that was excellent. Fresh, tasty, well tossed and nicly presented. Then we each chose a fish option...described as a filo pastry bag of sea food. Absolutely lovely. Again, fresh, delicious and nicelt presented with a delicate sauce. My lemon cheedecake dessert rounded off a first class evening meal in a very pleasing way. The waitress tonight could not have been more pleasant, interested, and helpful. Highly recommend this French/English bistro which is just off the High Street....just sorry that as we live a long way from Skipton we shall be able to visit again anytime soon.

Friendly greeting upon arrival,nice decor of restaurant, plenty of options food wise, service very good food was gorgeous and reasonably priced would definitely pay a visit again

Excellent meal!

I treated my dad, his partner & my partner to lunch there yesterday (14/6/26) & it's got a lovely charming French atmosphere. The service was excellent, I struggle to get up the stairs due to my bad knees & when we arrived the table was meant to be upstairs but they said we could sit downstairs. The staff are polite & welcoming & they were smiling a lot. The food was amazing. The only thing I would suggest with the Sunday roast would be to have more vegetables - peas, more carrots, stem fresh broccoli, dark green cabbage & sweetcorn with some butter. Apart from that, the food is amazing!

We had a few days in Skipton and decided to treat ourselves to dinner at the bistro as it was my birthday. The meal that we had was excellent, we both had the fish parcel in filo with a lovely Thermidor sauce, two very good crème brûlées and a nice bottle of wine. Having said that what did let the evening down was the service. I can’t say we were made particularly welcome, we ordered 2 lemoncello to begin the meal and only 1 came. The food came in good time but the plates were just placed on the table, no warmth or comment, no return to check if the food was good, no comment when the plates were collected. The restaurant was quite busy and there only seemed to be 2 waitresses so they must have been rushed but I couldn’t say either of them showed any professionalism at all. A shame but it didn’t spoil the evening. Just a lot of room for improvement.

Didnt have the burger option I wanted which was disappointing but the choice of other options was good. Food quality was really nice and good portion size. Would defo go back.

Great interior and a lovely setting overall. Unfortunately, there was nobody available to greet us when we arrived, and the downstairs area was very loud, with a number of guests appearing quite intoxicated and loud, which wasn't the best first impression. After introducing myself at the bar, the staff were very accommodating and showed us upstairs, where the atmosphere was much quieter and far more enjoyable. We were given water and some complimentary olives, and the staff were attentive in asking about allergies, which was appreciated. The food was good overall and very enjoyable. However, my friend was mistakenly given regular bread instead of gluten-free bread. We didn't want to make a fuss at the time, so we simply set it aside, but it's something that should be taken more seriously to avoid issues for guests with dietary requirements. Towards the end of the meal, we were told, "We really need this table back now, so if you could pay downstairs." While I understand the need to manage tables, the way this was communicated felt a little abrupt. We had hoped to relax for another 20 minutes and let our food settle before leaving. Overall, the food was delicious, the upstairs atmosphere was pleasant, and the staff were generally attentive. My main feedback would be to ensure gluten-free orders are handled correctly and to be a little more considerate when asking guests to vacate their table.
