I live about a 5 minute walk from The Golden Lion.It has become my favourite " go to " restaurant when I have friends/family to treat.The appearance from the outside of the hotel sets the scene. The building has existed for many,many years and has a very atmospheric feel to it.... both from the outside and inside.The dining room is impressive both in appearance and decor.all of the foregoing would be meaningless if it was not for the quality of both the staff,and most importantly the quality of the food.the steak Pie is awesome and try as hard as I can I really have to struggle to miss it out.Same can be said for the chicken dish with pepper sauce.Both the starters and Sweet menu is equally impressive!! The quality of the food is very much complimented by the quality of the staff.Although almost always busy rushing about doing their job,they always have time for a cheery word and a bit of banter which rounds off the eating experience and makes you feel good both in the stomach a d mind ensuring you always leave with with a smile on your face and a feeling of contentment in your head.Already looking forward to my next visit!!

Went here recently with my aunty for a lunch. Service was great but not overbearing, baked fish special was amazing and dessert of chocolate torte was stunning. Love coming here as the atmosphere is always lovely.

Staff were accommodating and happy to converse and knowledgeable about the menu. Food was served hot, with just the right timing between courses. Meat was tender, mash was smooth and veg cooked just right. Would definitely go back

Nice food. Plenty choice. Service a little slow. Wouldn’t stop me going back another time.

Dinner party of five. Seated where requested, lovely bar tender, food was excellent. I had the "Special" Sea Bream which was lovely with potatoes and veg followed by sticky toffee pud and tablet ice cream. Others had steak and chicken which they reported were delicious. Service was good until desert, then our table was not cleared. We sat with dirty dessert plates until we left - even though we were having drinks no attempt was made to clear the table. Bar service was efficient. Overall, we enjoyed the experience! Need to get a better TV for bar area, also update the seating. Some chair had big holes in the arms. A small investment would go a long way.

This was my second time at the Golden Lion. Food & service were brilliant both times. Would highly recommend.

Out for tea with Sheena last night and it was very good. We had the high tea menu, which finishes at six o'clock. Sheena had fish and chips, recommend, Jacqui had the roast of the day (pork) recommend, Derek had the steak pie (made in-house with flaky pastry, recommend, and I had the smoked cheese and bacon macaroni. All followed by scones with jam and cream and wee assorted cakes (chocolate size) and tea/coffee. lovely and quite "Olde Worlde". Very nice staff, attentive but not intrusive. I returned with my sister and daughter for lunch, Sara needs gluten free, Linda must avoid all carbs. Neither are accustomed to having more than two options on a menu whereas almost everything could be adapted. Two very happy lunch guests (I am "normal" ?) and I have been more than impressed. I'll certainly be back.

Was quiet but food was excellent. Great service too.

We love our lunches in the Golden Lion but our last visit wasnt as tasty as it usually is. We always have the fish and chips as fish is always lovely and white and batter is nice and crunchy. Batter was soft and fish didnt seem as white either. New chef or different fish supplier or maybe lay longer than usual to be served. We will be back to try it again. Hopefully a glitch. Was ok but not as good as it usually is.

Meal was satisfactory but my husband felt portions were quite small. Initially, felt service was quite slow as had to wait a wee while for drink order to be taken, and then had to ask for another drink as glasses were empty. Service then did improve and staff were pleasant

Excellent food & service was great

Booked last minute after spending the day at Stirling Castle and The Wallace Monument and in dire need of sustenance. The Cronies restaurant was a very pleasant surprise; traditional and elegant, without being formal or overbearing. The staff were helpful, friendly and attentive and we were made to feel at ease from the get go. Menu wise, there was a big enough selection for almost any taste without being bewildering. Both our meals were beautifully presented and absolutely delicious - so much so that we opted to share a pudding (even though we were both full and don't normally do desert!) A must visit if you are in Stirling.

This is a comfortable place to eat, and our guest from abroad liked it. The afternoon tea wasn't quite as good as when I've been in before, however. Despite having booked a table and filled in the special request box, no one seemed to know about it. Not even that we'd booked for tea, rather than lunch (judging by how they tried to take our order). The scones were gorgeous, as before. Shame that there was so little cream that we had to ask for more. The cakes were also lovely as expected. The sandwiches were a disappointment, a little dry and only cheese and ham, and not enough cheese for the non-meat eaters (two out of three). I suspect the lack of choice was bad luck, but the number of sandwiches more likely to have been because they thought there were only two of us... Since we'd booked for three, and three of us turned up, it was surprising to find only two teacups, teapot for two, and so on. Also had to ask for more tea after a while, which was actually hot, unlike the first tea. It was still an enjoyable afternoon, despite having to look out for serving staff to ask for more while also keeping a conversation going.

Another lovely high tea at Golden Lion hotel - food piping hot and tasty - generous portions and staff always helpful and pleasant- definitely recommend Cronnies bar for a super dinner and drink - live singer too made our night - I’ll be back

We had our meal but unfortunately the vegetables were too hard and after one bite of them they got stuck in my throat and I could not breath correctly and had to run to the toilet to be sick and try to bring them back up which was very uncomfortable and could not eat any more of my meal .the meal was for our anniversary so it did not turn out to be a good day for me .
