Good beers. Nice staff, let down by poor food, which which didn't offer value for money. I have been to the golden ball many times over 45 years but we probably wouldn't eat here again, just come in for drinks and crisps. Sad really because the food used to be really good. I assume it's a sign of the extremely hard times within the hospitality trade.

We did a 110 mile round trip from Wrexham to experience the menu and it didn’t disappoint, great slow cooked brisket and the oak smoke on the ribs was superb. Good atmosphere and pleasing decor all added to the experience. Cost wise it’s also good value ….we will be back with friends next time

First visit for breakfast, food was freshly cooked, hot and delicious! Really great quality ingredients Our server was so good and friendly but efficient All these things combined made for a brilliant experience Only downsides were, no black pudding available and the toast was half a bun instead of sliced sourdough

Good value and tasty Sunday lunch with plenty of vegetables, cauliflower cheese and extra gravy. Excellent service from very welcoming and friendly staff. Food was nice and hot and served very quickly. Beef a little tough but overall good meal and will certainly return. Recommended.

Amazing food.. great service

Excellent food, it's so good to taste the difference in quality food. We shared a Sunday roast platter and there was certainly plenty to eat and be more than satisfied. Didn't need to wait long either. Reasonable prices too. Great staff, friendly yet professional. Will definitely be back.

We’ve been before and had good food, but this was a disappointing visit. Of the four meals, one was excellent, two were fine and one was unpleasant. Apparently the burger supplier had changed. I would have expected the burgers to be made in house, not bought in from elsewhere. This burger was reminiscent of school dinners, mushy and no discernible meat. The chips were also basic economy chips, not worth the calories. We were told we were in for a long wait for the food, which wasn’t actually that long, and we were kept informed of the progress of our order. In fact the service was the one saving grace in a mixed evening. There was also unexpected live music, far too loud for the size of the room. If we ever come back, it won’t be to have a burger!

Quaint and tucked away in the middle of nowhere but SO worth the drive. In my opinion it beats Hickory's. I went there with my partner for date night and we were not disappointed. Service was quick, the staff very pleasant and approachable, and the food was exceptional. We chose one of the sharing platters and wanted to change a few items. The staff were very accommodating and were happy to do this. When the food arrived it was as described and piping hot; it was the ideal sharing board for 2 people. Once finished, we got asked if we wanted to take anything home which is always handy to know if you have leftovers! Desserts looked really good but we were too full to entertain the idea of pudding! We definitely will be going back and make this our regular smokehouse. A MUST try for those who love bbq food!! (Don't worry if have dietary requirements as the menu does cater for these!).

Brilliant place, the food is just outstanding, for what you get it’s a good value aswell. The atmosphere was good semi busy good restaurant vibe and was lucky to have a live band which was excellent. Service is very good both servers were very polite and friendly always checking if we was okay and had everything. We are going back just to try some more of the items. Fantastic place

Booked a table online for 7:30, turned up and was told the kitchen was closed. Did enquire why it allowed a food booking if it was closed but was just told “yeah we need to update that”. A more proactive approach could have been contacting me when the booking was made to tell us the kitchen wouldn’t be open. Was prompted by email to leave a review following our visit, probably another thing worth updating. Very disappointing and lack of care for the inconvenience it caused.

Had a very nice meal when we went for the Quiz night recently. Been a few times now and the food is lovely. I had the faggots and they are the best I have had. My wife enjoyed the crispy chilli beef. Staff very attentive and helpful. Would recommend a visit
