True success in catering for the public is not just measured by the quality of your food, the value you offer, the presentation and the atmosphere you achieve. It also comes down to basics like attention to detail, the owners caring enough to come and say hello to their customers, the little touches you didn't ask for but show they were listening, the smile on the waitresses face that says I like working here because they care. At Poppies, they have all this and more. Simple, quality food prepared and served caringly in a warm and freindly environment. A wonderful welcome everytime.

Had a lovely cake and latte here yesterday. Would recommend Gillams as both a cafe and an excellent foodie gift shop.

Really enjoyed our lunch at Poppies Cafe. I had the cottage pie which was excellent and great value at £5.95. My wife had a huge omlette and chips. With drinks the bill was £15 and worth every penny. Left full and satisfied with cash in my wallet for Xmas shopping! Will return when in Ulverston

Quite honestly it is worth a trip to Ulverston just to visit Poppies for lunch or coffee and a cake. What a lovely place. Friendly staff, great food and drink. A real gem in a smashing little market town.

Met a group of old friends for lunch here after hearing good reports. Glad I listened to the reports. Food was very good, service very friendly (even with a food throwing brat on our table!) and a great selection of beer. Will return. Only sorry the tight Scotsman on our table was left to give a tip and just left £2 a took the fiver for another round! Sorry about that!

We visit South Cumbria regularly and struggle for a good bar meal. Well we have found it today WOW great food service and surroundings. None of our party of 6 were diss appointed and it was all excellent. Good beer too. Be warned the Burgers are big, and also be warned you'll have to go back to try something else on the menu, we will certainly be back. Fabulous !!

Our cafe of choice in Ulverston. Nice atmosphere, good quality food, decent portions and pleasant service. Only small gripe is the dark windows, covered with blinds that you cannot see the street out of.

So glad this place has opened in Ulverston. We loved the place they used to own, The Hat Trick Cafe. They have brought their 'pleasantly odd' style and great food to our manor. We will be regulars.

Great selection of teas and coffees to drink in the premises or buy to take away. We bought some coffee and a mug for a gift.

Best fish and chips we have had in years! place doesn't look that great but it's the food that counts!

Great selection of beers and a good menu. Seems to be one of the better venues for drinking in the town. We enjoyed our meal and would recommend it.

Great place, varied menu, something to suit everyone, eaten there so many times, I've lost count.! Breakfast, lunch or dinner all food top or just a drink.

Once again 5 stars for Amigos, beautiful evening sat in the garden, staff so attentive, no special request too much. Food fabulous, a big thank you to chef .

Amigos was full when we rang to get a table, however we thought it worth the wait. We had a drink in town and then one downstairs in their cellar bar. We were impressed with the design and little touches in Amigos as well as the original features of the old townhouse. I was very impressed with the Moorhouses Blond Witch bottled ale, as I dont normally like bitter from bottles. The wife had a nice red. We had some fun with the crayons on our table and then enjoyed an excellent and very filling meal. I had Chorizo and Black Pudding and Enchiladas. My wife ribs and a chicken dish. We had patatas bravas as a side but it was completely unneccessary as we couldn't finish our food. We will return and order less next time.

Really enjoyed our Garlic Chilli Chicken and Jalfrezi. Service was very friendly. Waiters seemed to know all their regulars and shook hands and had banter with most of them. Lots of complimentary drinks flying about too. Will return.

I do not usually do reviews, but had to make an exception. Staying at Lakeside for three nights with my wife and had the misfortune to only find The Anglers on our second night. Ambience, service, menu, presentation and food all excellent. We will definitely be going back tomorrow evening. A must place to eat if you are in the area...shame its so far from London.
