Went here after reading a review on your site. Glad I did, I ordered a special for my starter and wow, the monkfish and salmon kebabs were great, perfectly cooked and fantastic fresh flavours, and the wife and kids had a Dare To Share again no complaints, great value which feed all three, Mains just as nice, well worth the money, great staff, excellent food, lovely pub, not been to a more welcoming pub in years. Well done all concerned. its a credit to you and your town. Will Be Back.....

We went to Amigos Mexican and Steakhouse in Ulverston on Friday 30th May, we were a group of 14 and were extremely well accommodated. The service was very good, all the wait staff were extremely polite and helpful. The food was delicious (try the mushrooms to start) and was piping hot when served. We pre-ordered all the food as there was so many of us and on the order I wrote everyone's name against the meal they had ordered and when the meals came out the staff simply said the name of the person who had ordered the meal which saved a lot of confusion from people who had forgotten what they ordered. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, it has a great atmosphere and the bar downstairs is very nice.

I have just returned from a weekend in Ulverston, and was extremely fortunate to have discovered The Old Farmhouse. My wife and I ate here twice, and the food was absolutely excellent on both occassions. It was also very reasonably priced, and the staff were extremely pleasant and attentive. We would recommend the "Chicken Stack", which was well cooked and came with a delicious pepper sauce, but all the food which came out of the kitchen looked superb. The restaurant looks as if it has been refurbished fairly recently, and has a lovely atmosphere. The adjoining main bar area has a large screen for sports events, and the locals made us feel very welcome. There is also a well kept beer garden, with nice floral displays, and patio heaters for sitting out when it gets a bit chilly. The management 'team' Neal & Mandy, also took the time to come and have a chat with us, and make sure everything was in order, which was a nice touch, as they were extremely busy. If you are in the area, I would thoroughly recommend that you drop in, as you will be made very welcome .

We dined here with a party of 20 from work - it was very well organised I provided a list of what each person was having and they brought the meals out and called each persons name. The service was quick and efficient and the food was very tasty, hot and nicely presented. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food. Try the chilli vodka - its excellent!!! There is a good, reasonably priced wine list too.

On visiting friends in Ulverston we were taken to The Swan Inn. This is a real old fashioned pub like the used to be. No pub food other than baps at weekends. The beer selection was unreal, 9 cask beers plus ciders and belgian beers. The locals and the 'slightly insane' landlord made us very welcome. WARNING do not try chilli sauce if offered

We had a fantastic meal with our friends on 2nd feb 2008. There were 10 people in our party celebrating a friends birthday. We had pre ordered our meals 48hrs before after browsing the delicious online menu. The food arrived quickly and the service was efficient and friendly. The sticky ribs were especially good ! As a surprise to the birthday boy, we had taken our own birthday cake and candles and the waitress was very good at hiding it until we were ready to have it served. The musical cake slice was a lovely touch and all added to a wonderful night.

Well what can I say about the globe; this may not be the largest or best dressed pub in Ulverston but what it lacks in size and appearance it makes up for in atmosphere, fun and damned good beer, and I prefer that any day to contemporary designer pubs where there’s more crack (craic) in a manikins arse than from the people within it. The pub is situated directly next door to the King’s head on Queen St, so it’s not far to wander if the mood takes you. It must have been three years since my last visit to this pub and it’s left me wondering why I left it so long. Although, like I said the bar area isn’t massive but it’s big enough to hold a good sized crowd and the staff seem more than competent of dealing with an influx of people. The pub is decorated in a traditional style again with slate floors, it has plenty to offer Joe public in the way of entertainment; Sky T.V. pool, darts, juke box and if that’s not enough entertainment you have the regulars who have to be met to be fully understood (and not in a bad way), they will leave you in stitches and not in the literal sense. Wendy who owns the pub is one of Ulverston’s best characters, on one hand she’s like everybody’s Mum, she always makes you feel at home and part of the family and she never forgets a name or a face, on the other hand she runs the place like a field general, not one of her customers would dare step out of line or cross her. So let’s take a quick recap; nice warm friendly welcome to every one of their comers, it’s a strictly run house so you have no worries of trouble and an owner that has plenty of time for her customers. That’s not all; the pub has a massive beer garden capable of easily catering for a military platoon and all of us smokers come July 1st. The pub is a Robinsons house with a good selection of ales, wines, spirits and alcopops (yes I know, that I bang on about alcopops being Satans brew but it’s a town center pub and must cater for the majority not the minority). I would recommend you try the XB at the globe it’s not normally the best pint or my first choice in any pub but Wendy keeps a bloody good pint of this fairly good all year round bitter. So if you like to partake in a few pints on a summers day or night I think you would enjoy a trip to The Globe it’s friendly atmosphere, warm welcome well stocked and kept bar is guaranteed to make you stop for more than the odd couple that you went out to consume, take your friends, your partners or go alone you will be all made more than welcome here. You really have to try this place to fully understand my warmth for this place and all the characters that make it what it is, a damned fine hostelry! See you when you get there

farmers arms what is it? on the front of the building it says wine bar and restaurant however it is a pub full of drinkers shouting and swearing so it is not a restaurant. And to say that a selection of around 6 wines that you can get in the spar makes you a wine bar is just wrong.

We've been dining at Amigos for over 6 years now and have always had a fabulous experience there. The last couple of reviews have prompted me to add one in their defence. I would rather a wait a few minutes extra and be guaranteed a freshly prepared meal cooked with honesty and integrity. As the kitchen door is always ajar, customers can see the tiny kitchen and the two chefs working their amazing magic in there - I don't know how they do it?. The menu variety is great and we are always spoilt for choice (though one of us ALWAYS orders sticky ribs, the best I've eaten anywhere!). As we live locally, we sometimes just pop in the bar for a decent bottle of wine and nibbles, the atmosphere is like nothing else in Ulverston. Keep up the good work Amigos, you deserve the great reputation you've earned over the years.

My partner & i came for my birthday as it is my favourite place & i am never disappointed. would like to ad tho this time we were sat by what i think is a disused door in the front of the restaurant, there was a terrible draught coming through it. I sat there very cold, a curtain over it would definitely do the trick

My partner & I visited the restaurant recently and found it to be very acceptable. I realise the food is cooked to order, but as we were the only pair in initially, followed later by a second couple, I found the service particularly slow, and wonder how long we would have had to wait for food if there had been a large party in.

A gem - a 'proper' Mexican place rather than one of the somewhat naff chains that have sprung up in many major towns. The food is very flavoursome and the menu is well through through. The atmosphere is fun and relaxed and fairly intimate and you can tell the owners are passionate about the food and the place. A bit of a pig to find for an outsider, but worth it when you are there. Plus the bar downstairs is a great place to try some more unusual beers and spirits in very comfortable surroundings.

I obviously went on the wrong night! I called in at 6.30pm and asked for a table for one. "No problem" was the reply. A menu appeared and I ordered a coke in the downstairs bar whilst I ordered.I'd been in with friends the week before and whilst the service was a bit iffy the chilli was excellent and so I'd called in again for more of the same. Imagine my surprise then, when I was told that the chilli had sold out. At 6.30pm??!! You know that feeling when you've been thinking of a particular meal all day and can't wait to get stuck in? Well that was me. The girl explained that they hadn't made any chilli the night before and therefore only had one portion left which had just been ordered. God knows when that batch had been made!I decided not to stay and asked for the bill for my coke. Oh, the coke, by the way, was in one of those tiny bottles that only half fills a glass. That came to £1.50 and I handed over a fiver, but, at 6.30pm, and not anticipating a rush of one customer, there were no large denomination coins in the till. So the girl gave me my change in pennies and 5p pieces. And so off I went, shuffling out into the early evening with an empty stomach and a pocket full of change. Somehow I can't see that happening in Tiujana..........One thing's for sure. I won't be going to Amigos in Ulverston anytime soon.
