We have been to the Old Smithy for many months and have never had a bad meal or drink. Highly recommended pub.
The Old Smithy – RugbyExcellent service and food was delicious as always
The Old Smithy – RugbyI attended the bar on saturday night with 3 friends. When we arrived, we were sat outside at the front, we agreed as we were told there was a heater - it didn't provide any heat. We were not advised that the outside closed at 11, and were told to leave aout 5 minutes before, baring in mind the inside doesn't close then. We placed our first drinks order at around 9pm, it took 50 minutes to receive a cocktail and a j20 - and this was only delivered to the table after speaking to a manager. We had also tried to find out how long the drinks would be by asking at the bar, but were met with rudeness and told to just wait. Whilst waiting for the first set of drinks, we ordered some more, which again failed to materialise. I went to chase again with the manager as it had been another 30 mins from ordering. When I was talking to the manager, a staff member dropped a tray of drinks which smashed and the glass and wine went all over feet, and ended up in my shoe. This was met with "do you want some shots". Baring in mind that I don't drink and was driving, this isn't exactly helpful. I wasn't even offered a soft drink which costs absolutely nothing. We also asked if we could move to a table inside, as it was freezing and raining. We could see there were empty tables where people had left, but were told that people were queing outside so no. I couldn't understand the logic of not allowing us to move inside, especially given the treatment so far. We were consistently brushed off, rudely spoken to by bar staff, waitied ridiculous times for drinks, especially given that we were ordering gin and tonics,I understand you said you were busy, but given the covid guidelines, you were no where near capacity so I dread to think what the service reduces to given the low level we received. Given that we are were group of 30 year old women, who had just come to enjoy some cocktails after our dinner, it was very clear that the focus was on young clientele getting drunk rather than ensuring everyone else received any level of service. I'm sure if I was 18, already drunk and offered rounds of free shots for late drinks none of this would be an issue. I want to support businesses locally, especially at the moment but rude, dismissive service is not acceptable especially given how much you charge for average drinks. This was my first time to Bedford Street and likely my last.
Bedford Street Bar – Leamington SpaAs normal food was excellent well cooked extra tasty. Staff incredibly polite even though they were busy never felt rushed.
Newdigate Arms – BedworthFood was perfect and staff were great we be back again.
The Old Smithy – RugbyBooked a table with friends for Saturday night. Atmosphere was good and COVID-19 restrictions were in place. However, certain people were not following the guidelines and the staff didn’t tell them otherwise. Also ordering drinks through the app is awful. We were waiting 22 minutes for a corona! Needs to be a better system in place. Maybe table service and then pay the bill at the end? Staff were ok but one member if staff had really poor hygiene.
Bedford Street Bar – Leamington Spalovely food, friendly staff very clean
Newdigate Arms – BedworthOur food was lovely and the staff were very friendly and helpful while keeping social distancing rules.
The Old Smithy – RugbyVery welcoming atmosphere. Tables nicely placed apart. Great service and the meal and desserts were lovely. Thank you
Newdigate Arms – BedworthLovely place for a meal out, very friendly staff who couldn't do enough for our table of 4. The food took a while to come out, but it was very busy and when it did we couldn't fault it, good portion size and good quality.
The Old Smithy – Rugbyunfortunately plastic found in my food, new meal made and then more plastic found refund given but left hungry after my husband had eaten his meal before my second had even arrived very diassapointed not a great end to our wedding anniversary day unfortunalety
The Old Smithy – RugbyToday had a lovely fresh cooked meal, the service was well organised from walking in the door , to ordering your food and being served by well mannered staff.
Newdigate Arms – BedworthAwful Experience - Walked Out After using this pub for years and always enjoying the meals it disappointing to write this. I tried to book a table via the pub and was advised I had to book online which I did for lunchtime Wed 19/Aug/20. On arrival we were told tables were allocated on a first come basis. Despite the pub being half empty we were led to the "Marquee" which was on the tarmac of the car park, no flooring or decor only table and chairs. It was raining heavily, temperature just adequate and not conducive to enjoying a meal. I believe previously this was the smokers area which defines how basic it was. There was also a problem that we needed to order via the King Henry App and wifi cover was poor when I tried to download. We decided not to stay due to the miserable atmosphere in which to eat. There was no mention of the marquee possibility or needing the app when booking. As we were first come before other bookings why were we not seated indoor and were treated as we had turned up without booking? The person on the door, who I believe was the manager, did not appear to recognise our name and booking so had the pub received it? Was it because we were a couple and the pub preferred to have 4 or more people to a table? We will not be returning.
The Old Smithy – RugbyWe booked a table not knowing we would be in the carpark in a marquee. There were many empty tables when we got there and when we left, don’t know why we had to sit in the marquee. It was raining quite hard. Our food and drinks were walked through the garden getting rained on (along with the poor waiting staff). We could not download the app so had to walk all the way round the pub to order our food. I felt the manager wasn’t at all interested and some of the team needed retraining. Very disappointed. Won’t be visiting again.
The Old Smithy – RugbyWas a little chaotic as it was the half price offer. Staff handled it well Lynne who served us was lovely. Just a slight concern I thought the door entering and the door you leave from should have been open, one for good air flow and the other so people do not need to touch the door handles etc in the current Covid situation.
The Old Smithy – RugbyWe came on the Eat out scheme there was 5 of us, we had a really lovely meal and portions were generous. The restaurant had a great atmosphere, very well organised with social distancing, a one way system in place for entry and exit, well done to everyone on the team at The Old Smithy as you were extremely busy!
The Old Smithy – RugbyExcellent in all respects. My favourite venue. An extremely, hands on. hardworking, polite manager backed up by a very efficient staff. Top marks.
The Old Smithy – RugbyWe visit here a lot with our two sons. None of us can fault it, amazing tasting food and great value for money! The staff are all polite and helpful, we would rather travel 30mins down the road to eat here bypassing several pubs. Thanks for being you Old Smithy!
