Today had a lovely fresh cooked meal, the service was well organised from walking in the door , to ordering your food and being served by well mannered staff.

Awful Experience - Walked Out After using this pub for years and always enjoying the meals it disappointing to write this. I tried to book a table via the pub and was advised I had to book online which I did for lunchtime Wed 19/Aug/20. On arrival we were told tables were allocated on a first come basis. Despite the pub being half empty we were led to the "Marquee" which was on the tarmac of the car park, no flooring or decor only table and chairs. It was raining heavily, temperature just adequate and not conducive to enjoying a meal. I believe previously this was the smokers area which defines how basic it was. There was also a problem that we needed to order via the King Henry App and wifi cover was poor when I tried to download. We decided not to stay due to the miserable atmosphere in which to eat. There was no mention of the marquee possibility or needing the app when booking. As we were first come before other bookings why were we not seated indoor and were treated as we had turned up without booking? The person on the door, who I believe was the manager, did not appear to recognise our name and booking so had the pub received it? Was it because we were a couple and the pub preferred to have 4 or more people to a table? We will not be returning.

We booked a table not knowing we would be in the carpark in a marquee. There were many empty tables when we got there and when we left, don’t know why we had to sit in the marquee. It was raining quite hard. Our food and drinks were walked through the garden getting rained on (along with the poor waiting staff). We could not download the app so had to walk all the way round the pub to order our food. I felt the manager wasn’t at all interested and some of the team needed retraining. Very disappointed. Won’t be visiting again.

Was a little chaotic as it was the half price offer. Staff handled it well Lynne who served us was lovely. Just a slight concern I thought the door entering and the door you leave from should have been open, one for good air flow and the other so people do not need to touch the door handles etc in the current Covid situation.

We came on the Eat out scheme there was 5 of us, we had a really lovely meal and portions were generous. The restaurant had a great atmosphere, very well organised with social distancing, a one way system in place for entry and exit, well done to everyone on the team at The Old Smithy as you were extremely busy!

We visit here a lot with our two sons. None of us can fault it, amazing tasting food and great value for money! The staff are all polite and helpful, we would rather travel 30mins down the road to eat here bypassing several pubs. Thanks for being you Old Smithy!

We didn’t eat as the old smithy was not following the government’s guidelines regarding Covid. There was only one entrance and exit, none of the staff were not wearing any ppe . Customer were going to the bar to order food and drinks. We were told we would be eating in a marquee but there’s no mention of this anywhere on the website. Your management on site attitude was we don’t have to wear ppe. We have eaten at other places and felt safe but not at your establishment. We will not be eating at any of your pubs again. I reiterate we didn’t feel safe.

After booking a table in advance, we had to wait outside for about 15 minutes, not an issue, however, when making a reservation nothing mentioned that will be sharing table with another group. After 30mins at the table, were told by waiter that this table is booked by someone else in 15 mins. Again when making reservation nothing mentioned about time limit nor at the time when taken to the table by the waiter. We were told at that stage that tables are booked for 2 hours, but being asked to had table back after 30 mins. Not very organised.

Arrived at 5pm it was very busy staff were lovely and patient we were seated in the marquee which we enjoyed we were out the way meals came promptly and we all enjoyed the meal the only negative was the choice I made was the third choice as they hadn't got them but the fact they were busy I understood all in all a pleasant time thank you

Absolutely terrible from start to finish. Uninterested door staff, very poor service and people crammed in tight during Covid-19 times were all just completely unacceptable. Never again.

Unfortunately I didn’t have a good experience. I had pre booked for just drinks with 2 friends. Even though we had booked we had to wait about 15 mins as they had let others sit at our table so had to wait for them to go. Once they were removed we even had to ask for our table to be cleaned as they were in a rush to get us seated they had forgot and this is really serious due to covid ! Once seated we ordered through the new system on our phones and paid but then got told they didn’t have cocktails on the menu so couldn’t order them even though the app let us order them. We spoke to 3 different members of staff to try and help us and waited around for 20 mins but we were completely ignored with no drinks still. In this time the bouncer in the cue was having trouble with drunken teenagers and another 2 young lads were being kicked out too. The atmosphere was not what we had expected as felt like a student night gone wrong and there was no social distancing in place as people were walking around everywhere , staff couldn’t hear you so were right up close to you too and no one was supervising the toilets so there was big cues all scrammed in together. It was a disaster so we left and went home. The staff were polite but that was the only positive I can think of. I did express my concerns to a gentlemen when I left and he was apologetic but it was too late at this point. We have been to other places and felt covid safe and service was amazing through aps etc and was easy and nice so it was really disappointing to come here and not have the same experience and it ruined our evening . They can’t help what customers turn up but I do think they need to turn very drunk customers away rather than let them in as covid does need to be taken seriously and guidelines need to be kept to.
