I have visited the The Owls At Standish by invitation to 2 larger parties, on 2 occasions, it is lovely and clean, the food is excellent and hot, the surrounding area is beautiful, there is plenty of space in the restaurant, there's no rush, the staff are friendly and helpful, I have recently booked it again for 6 people in October The prices are very reasonable, and its certainly the sort of eating out venue to put top of your list, I certainly will. There is a very good selection on the menu for all requirements. The management is very well organised and accurate.

hi we went to the olive garden friday lunch, what a lovely place, very friendly waiter. food was excellent one of the best italians we have been to. our only complaint is the price of drinks. when we got the bill was quite shocked at 3.20pence for my husbands bitter. worth a visit but ask for the wine menu is our advice.

I have been to the ashfield on a number of occasions over the past 5 years ,during my recent visit i noticed the place was looking a bit shabby and dated. The food was top class but the waitress service a touch careless for want of a better word.might try else were next time

Have been a customer at the Owls at Standish, for years, and on Friday 19th June 2009 visited with my 85 year old father and my wife.During the meal the waiter slipped and "threw" a full bowl of custard over the table,my shirt, tie and suit trousers, and i do mean a "full-bowl" !!He was apologetic, the incident was witnessed by various other customers and a table occupied by friends of my wife.No member of management came to the table to apologise, despite the lady who appeared to be in charge passing several times. As we paid the bill,we gave details of the incident,no offer of compensation was made/reduction in the bill. The reception/cashier summoned the lady who had walked past us several times, who in a very curt manner told us it "would come out",her complete lack of customer skills and arrogance was breathtaking, this had ruined the rest of our evening as we had to return home and change. No offer of a refund was made---so beware at the Owls of Standish, you pay for what the waiter spills over you, make sure its not an expensive dish!!

It is a nice place in a good setting, however, the food and the service was pretty bad, the chicken pie was slop in a bowl with a burnt top, you have to order at the front desk before you even get a table, worst dining experience i've ever had

Me and my boyfriend went on a Sunday evening to eat. We sat down and ordered our meals (Garlic Bread starter and 2 seafood paella starters to share), we waited 30 minutes for the garlic bread and one seafood paella came. We said we ordered two seafood paellas and waited a further 20 minutes for the other paella starter. When this arrived it had cold spots in it. This is SEAFOOD which came with hot and cold spots. We sent it back and asked for a refund, and said we would pay for what we ate. They tried charging us twice for the drinks, and also tried charging us for the meals we had not eaten. When challenged, they refunded the drinks and we paid for the garlic bread and 1 seafood paella, however this was after 3 attempts of challenging the receipt. I had food poisoning the night after eating some of the paella, i would never eat here again nor would i recommend this restaurant.

Great ambience a certainly a warm welcome from the friendly manageress and staff. This is a newly refurbished village pub which retains most of it's original features as befits a coaching house of it's period. The food was somewhat disappointing however, half an hour wait for very simple starters wasn't really worth it - given that they all arrived in stages making several of us wait before starting to eat. Then we found one of the dishes was partially frozen, luckily we had swapped it with my husbands fishcake otherwise my toddler would have eaten a frozen spring roll. The mains quickly followed but the steaks were so overcooked that they had shrunk and some dish ingredients had been confused with different meals. Decided to have dessert and coffee at home. I think it prudent to wait to eat there until the food service operation can be improved.

just had a meal on mother day and the food was like very high quality and had a reasonable price. and after the meal they give us a free Amaranth, and i ask one of there waiter they said they give it free every sunday. i very happy and i will come back again. what about you? try once your life, you will enjoy it! buraq in Ashton-in-Makerfield it is the best Indian restaurant to eat.

A very, very disappointing dining experience. My wife and I dine out frequently and we have circumvented a number of local indian restaurants. This place seriously let themselves down. they served up salty food and when this point was brought to the attention of the waiting staff / chef we were told 'the chef said you were having a laugh !!!'. The manager failed to address the situation. If you want to take my advice... unless you like salty food and poor customer service you'll be best off avoiding this place

go to the red robin much better!!! we were disgusted with the service and meal quality

Charnley Arms – Wigan

Service was good, though waitress had an uncanny knack of shouting and being very giddy! But she was working on her own!! Food was quite poor considering the price, small portions, you had to pay extra for veg or salad so it worked out quite expensive for what you got. Also - we were told that many things on the menu were sold-out - Fish, steak, wine!! It was only 7pm on a Saturday night!! Problems with the stock-control there! The decor was lovely - but they need to sort out the problems above before we would return.

Please do not go for a meal here. I attended last sunday with my family. I ordered roast lamb, it tasted like it had been cooked in floor cleaner, and the boiled potatoes were from a tin. I even heard someone at the check out desk complain about the same poor food they also looked very disappointed. Unfortunately i needed to use the gents on the way out ? it was disgraceful. The smell was of stale urine and very overpowering. What a shame this beautiful location has been spoiled by bad Food and unclean facilities. Take my advice STAY well clear of this establishment.

Went last week on works party. The service was excellent and the food was mouthwatering. Good selection of wines too. Enjoyed it so much going again this week. It has to be my favourite restaurant around Wigan.

Gallimores – Wigan

Pity you don't have another box for dissatisfied customers as I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND the Wiggin Tree - meal took over 1 and half hours to be served to table after asking about the slow service and if there were any problems in the kitchen. When it arrived it was poor to say the least and the fries were only warm and looked like they had been sitting around for half an hour. We ordered coffee - makes no difference what you order, you get a bog-standard version which takes another 25 minutes to get to table. Take my advice, choose somewhere else for your pub lunch. :(

Sat 31st January. Restaurant freezing cold. Service abysmal, Starters passable, main course abysmal. Veg was inedible. Half of restaurant closed off, not many customers in, looked as though there was no chef on duty and the few staff (we only saw 4) were trying unsuccessfully to cope
