I have been a veggie for 15 years and have generally been disappointed with the food served up when we eat out. At the Gate Hangs Well I was in for a treat. The selection of real ales was wonderful and the 'Char Grilled Vegetable Stack' was the best vegetarian meal that I have ever tasted! Outstanding! The atmosphere was fabulous, the staff were very friendly. All in all an amazing night and we will definitely be back!!! THANK YOU, Gate Hangs Well!!!

Excellent atmosphere, good food. One of the last privately owned pubs serving good food and beer in the area. Same owners for last 30 years or so. Well recommended.

The food and service is always of an excellent quality always fresh fish and lots of specials to choose from - The best Calamari anywhere!

If you enjoy a Quality meal taken from a mouth watering menu followed by a Superb cask beer or a glass of wine then look no further. The friendliness of all the staff and the comfortable surroundings makes for a very pleasant and enjoyable stay. Nothing was to much trouble. My wife and I would certainly recommend The Gate Hangs Well

This is a Carvery (with a small additional menu if preferred) which offers a good choice of meats and vegetables, although they can't seem to get the roast parsnips right! If you order a dessert at the same time as your main meal, you pay a lot less for the dessert. The staff are friendly but sometimes rushed off their feet and so the service suffers. However, the manager is very helpful. If you want to chat whilst you eat, don't go on 'Music Night' - the sound is far too loud for the size of the pub - a problem suffered at most small pubs these days, I fear.

I took my husband here for a birthday meal. The food was faultless. the service was outstanding. We were not rushed. The table was ours for the night. We decided to have our coffee in the smoking area and relayed our idea to the hostess. A table was promptly reserved for us. If we had to find fault....... we just couldn't. Each course seemed to outsmart the previous and the puddings are to die for. We just emptied our pockets of pound coins for the tips.

An excellent restaurant tucked away in the country. Well recommended, will go again.

OK for a quick meal but not a true restaurant

We have always enjoyed the food at Shahi Palace since it first opened! We now crave a 'Shahi' curry but have a baby and don't get out as much. We miss the ambience of the restaurant and just have to make do with a take-away nowadays....which is just as good!

Although the service is a little slow, the excellent home-cooked food is well worth the wait. Generous portions served HOT, very reasonably priced, a real pub atmosphere without all the fancy trimmings. Give it a try if you have time to relax; meals served at lunchtime only.
