After a two-and-a-half year interregnum, Michelin-starred chef Andy Waters has reopened his acclaimed Edmunds Restaurant, moving it in the process from Henley-in-Arden to Brindley Place in Birmingham city centre. Waters has enjoyed an illustrious culinary career, working under French master chef Paul Bocuse and winning a Michelin star with both Simpson's - when it was in Kenilworth - and within six months of opening the original Edmunds. The restaurant, which is named after Andy's late father, seats just 40 diners and a range of menus - a la carte, tasting, luncheon and vegetarian -- showcase his classically based cooking. Expect starters like salmon with oyster beignet, Cornish crab and avocado, mains such as Tournedo of Scotch beef, swede fondant, morel mushrooms, curly kale, served with a parsnip purée and desserts like the Assiette of apples, delice, jelly, sorbet and croquant with Calvados cream. Edmunds is open for lunch from Monday to Friday and dinner Monday to Saturday. Awards | Good Food Guide 6

The previously disused Birmingham Eye Hospital is the distinctive location for the largest Hotel du Vin in the country. The ornate, early-Victorian building in the old city centre, now part of the newly revitalised Jewellery Quarter, was sympathetically converted to provide 66 bedrooms and suites around the central courtyard, retaining many original features including the magnificent sweeping staircase and granite pillars. A relaxing haven in the city, the hotel offers the trademark Bistro, a spa and gym, and has a popular Cellar Bar, all complemented by the Hotel du Vin's unique relaxed style of hospitality. Open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, the Bistro offers a menu rooted in classic European cuisine with a contemporary edge. Here you will find 'simple classics' that change seasonally with head chef Nick Turner adding his own selections daily, all supporting a philosophy of using the finest and freshest local produce, cooked simply, priced sensibly. The extensive and eclectic wine list is a key feature of the hotel. In addition to the main list, including an impressive array by the glass, there is a small daily selection of good-value wines to complement the menu. Head sommelier Francois Bourde and his team are always happy to give friendly, knowledgeable advice.Awards | 1 AA Rosette | Good Food Guide 2
