Located midway between the Dales and Lake District national parks right on the borders of Lancashire, Yorkshire and Cumbria, Hipping Hall is a fine dining restaurant with rooms. The main building dates back to the 17th century but parts of it are even older, notably the wonderfully atmospheric late-Tudor restaurant with its walk-in fireplace and Minstrels' Gallery. Here New Zealander Brent Hulena delivers classic British cooking with a French twist with two menus to choose from - a three-course table d'hote and a seven-course tasting menu, both available with matching wines from the extensive list. A typical meal might start with Braised pig's cheek served with parsnip puree, pork belly crisp and hen's yolk followed by Fillet of wild sea bass with heritage potatoes, morteau sausage, leeks and scallop veloute and finishing up with Rhubarb, Rhubarb, Rhubarb - poached, sorbet and jelly with tonka bean ice cream.

The building has been beautifully and sensitively restored, matching contemporary styling with classic features. There are nine bedrooms - three of them in a separate cottage annexe - all individually furnished to a very high standard and all can be viewed in great detail on the Hipping Hall website. It's also a very popular venue for small weddings and celebrations with packages tailored to meet individual needs. . .
