We 1st told the staff there would be 12 of us, but changed this to 10 when 2 people didn't show up. After eating, they insisted we pay for 12 people. The manager, a white man with spikey blonde hair, was very rude. He said that we had to pay because we had had a 'verbal contract.' When we disagreed with paying this, his reply was 'I am a 42 year old business owner worth 20 million... and what are you?' One of us replied 'a 28 year old careers advisor,' to which the very owner of the restaurant replied 'so there you go. And you look more like 2... months that is!' We then paid the amount he'd demanded, otherwise we couldn't leave. When we got outside, our group instantly started to talk about how amazing his childishness was. By this time, he was pointing and staring threateningly at us through the restaurant window. He beckoned one of us back over to the doorway and said 'by the way, your whole group is barred.' He then told us that he owned the quaside footpath, so that if we didn't move he would throw us into the river!!! This was all without any provocation from us. We finally moved on after the birthday girl had gone back in to get her birthday balloon that she'd forgotten... it had been popped by the manager. On a separate occasion, a couple were turned away from 'In Shanghai' by this very same manager. The reason?.. he overheard them asking a waiter for tap water. The manager's answer was 'I dont like students costing my business. I don't make a profit off the food, so I won't make a profit from you...' and the couple were not students.

same old same old. no change from the old restaurant, cold, rude staff cold food bigger price.
Elephant The
Yet another all-you-can-eat buffet with borderline hostile staff, except with both Thai and Chinese food. Not very authentic, but worth it if you want to stuff yourself.
Elephant The
The best Chinese in Durham bar non exceptionally gorgeous food and great service. I will definitley be returning and if I could buy a chair and table I would and I would live there. 10 out of 10 and then 10 extra.
