Hey Michael, Spot on he don? mess about !

Scott Arms Fish Bar – Great Barr
the hungry one

For the average punter the restaurant is more than adequate however the more experience Indian food lover the food was rather bland, the naan bread were burnt, the chutneys were watery and flavourless.

Diwan Balti – Moseley

Quite simply, my favourite Balti restaurant. If in Birmingham try it. It isn't salubrious but the food is all that matters. The naan breads are enormous. 10/10.

We have been to a few buffets and without doubt this is by far the best. The choice of food was excellent,we were very surprised to have found a large choice of desserts and the chocolate fountain is brilliant! and this wont be the last time we visit hats off to the people that run the place. thankyou it made our 2nd Anniversary very special. Ever keen to sample unfamiliar foods from varied cultures, I enjoyed an excellent meal at this buzzing little restaurant last night (an extremely busy Wednesday). I was accompanied by three friends, one of whom is Persian and thus acted as our guide on the menu and etiquette. We decided to forego the starters as our friend/guide warned us the main courses were colossal. Here there was a good choice of kebabs, salads, fish dishes and what they call ?ranian Specialities?(some of which could be served either with meat or as vegetarian dishes). I plumped (and emphasis - after eating it - would be on the ?lump? for the Chello Khoresht Ghorme Sabzi: not quite a curry, but a beautiful lamb stew swimming in split beans, tomatoes and lime, served with a vast heap of rice. Just the ticket on a grey autumn evening. We shared a stack of Iranian naan bread by way of further accompaniment. We also shared a jug of dough, a yummy yogurt drink containing mint, which I found very refreshing but have to say received a mixed reaction round the table (probably an acquired taste). For dessert, myself and one friend opted for the saffron ice cream - again served in mountainous proportions - which was a glorious shade of ?at me?yellow and lusciously refreshing. The other two girls shared a plate of baklava, a very sweet little pastry containing chopped nuts and honey, and a pot of Iranian tea. I did sample a drop of the latter, and am afraid I have to employ a toe-curling pun by describing this beverage as not my cup of tea (ouch)! (As a point of reference, this tea is served without milk, and it is considered the norm and not slobbish in Persian society to pour it into the saucer and drink thus!) The bill, split four ways, came to a very reasonable £14 each including tip. But then since Shiraz isn? licensed - neither are diners permitted to bring their own alcohol - there are no wines or spirits to pump up the price, as can be the case. One downside is that, travelling in from Sutton Coldfield, the place isn? the most convenient to get to unless you?e prepared to splurge out for a taxi. I know this isn? the restaurant? ?ault?as such, but thought I would mention it since I am reviewing the evening as a whole. Being just out of the city centre, on Hagley Road - close to the Five Ways island - Shiraz isn? mega accessible by train, and my friend who drove had to park in a side road a good 10-15 minute walk away (which wasn? overly pleasant in the dark). Having said that, on the strength of my first visit, I feel the quality of the food is worth a taxi fare!

i tried this restaurant on Sunday lunch time along with several family members (including children) after seeing them at the taste of Birmingham. the welcome we received was fantastic, the staff couldn't do enough for us. the food on offer was a buffet with dishes to suit all of the tastes of my party. the gentlemen cooking the gorgeous pad Thai added extra theatre to the occasion. i was pleasantly surprised when i received the bill after all we had eaten. we will all definitely be going back.

Visited last Saturday evening. First time in 25 years. Well impressed, Food was first class, the steak just like I cook at home. Service was excellent. Well done Becky. Great atmosphere, although quite noisy, but not an issue. Probably go back again in 25 days.

I've eaten regularly in all the best Birmingham and Black Country Asian Restaurants for over 30 years. At all of them, I've paid much more, I've eaten less well, or have felt less welcome in less elegant surroundings than I ever realised I had until I discovered the Saffron. There is no other Asian restaurant that comes close to it in the whole of the West Midlands. Excellent versions of all of the standard dishes are available at the end of the menu. You won't get that far. The first four pages are full of such extraordinary delights you can find nowhere else. Begin with the sea bass starter. Then just explore! Absolutely marvellous.

An excellent evening spent at Chung Ying Garden on Saturday 30 September. Our party of 4 chose to share 2 of the set meals for 2 and the speed of service was very good. The dishes just kept on arriving at our table which was groaning under the sheer weight of food. My personal favourite was the lemon chicken in honey which was mouth-watering. A good sign as to the quality of the restaurant were the number of Chinese diners. They have discerning palettes! I cannot recommend the place enough. Book now. You won't be disappointed.

Really enjoyed our visits to this restaurant. For the health conscious, they use vegetable oils instead of ghee etc in the cooking. Really welcoming and hospitable staff. Not licensed - you can bring your own drinks - cheap off licence a few doors away!
