I was treated to a lovely 3 course lunch by a friend in mid August 2006. They do a relatively cheap set menu, under £20 for 2 courses but the choice is very limited. I could have demanded a bottle of wine and gone for a lobster started but it might have been the end of a beautiful friendship! The atmosphere was lovely and quite noisy but we could look around whilst being left in our own private space. The food was wonderful - I'd be happy if I could produce food as tasty at every meal. The portions aren't huge but as I had 3 courses I didn't need any extras! The growing boys out there will obviously need some extras! I'd love to go again and they have a very reasonable Xmas menu out already. We had a 3 course lunch each, with 1 proper drink and a few soft ones, no wine for under £80.

My wife surprised me with a birthday lunch at Simpsons and to celebrate we chose the tasting menu. It was an amazing experience lasting over 3 hours and including courses that weren't even listed on the menu. The staff were friendly, polite and very informed about the food and made the whole time even more special. The cost was expensive but justifiably so. I am including only a snippet of the courses in this review as a full recourse of events would take up too much room and use too many adjectives. We had foie gras ravioli, seared tuna rolled in wild sesame, sweetbreads, mouth watering beef, scallops, goats cheese, two desserts, coffee and petit fours. Each of these courses was accompanied with various purees, compotes, tempura, reductions. I could go on! The main delight for my wife was the cheese course; shavings of the tastiest goats cheese lay around the plate, what turned out to be a foam of goats cheese on the middle was accompanied with beetroot crisps on top. This was accompanied by a beetroot sorbet (!) which was a new delight for the palette. My favourite was the seared scallops with pureed cauliflower, tempura cauliflower and a raw slither of fresh cauliflower. The Michelin star, in our eyes, is just deserved due to the warm welcome from the staff, the endless knowledge of the dishes from the staff and the use of Birmingham made plates, cutlery. Also the menu was exquisitely thought out to cater for all tastes and every human sense imaginable. As we were driving we didn't indulge in alcohol but the wine list was huge covering wines from all over the world including countries that we didn't know produced wine! A sommelier was on hand to guide patrons through every imaginable choice and a second trip without the car may be in order for the future. As mentioned the meal was expensive, but Simpsons is not like any other restaurant we have ever dined at. A weekly occurrence for the rich, a special treat for the rest of us!

what can I say ,,lovely lovely lovely, this place is gr8,the food excellent and what a fantastic choice ,staff polite and very friendly, ambience relaxed and friendly .this is a consistently high standard restaurant (my family and myself and friends just keep coming back) I recommend it to everyone thanks Julie..

Best fish and chip shop in Birmingham and probably the universe.. although Poulton Square chip shop next to the New Inn in Morecambe takes some beating. Fantastic batter - would compete with any tempura bar in Tokyo - and brilliantly white cod. Suspect that the chips are fried in beef dripping, no problem for me but veggies beware. Mushie peas and a pot of tea complete the set. Rick Stein would give it a big thumbs up.

This is the best kashmiri in all the land once you have been there you wont look back. Super staff make you feel most welcome, and the food is to die for, well done Akrams!

Nayim, if that is how the owner's name is spelled, is the consummate proprietor, servicing aesthetic as well as more basic needs. He balances his impressive intellect and love of jazz with the requisites of providing a fine meal to be enjoyed by all. He serves tandoori lamb as a starter, and it is most unusual, and tasty. His curries are Birmingham-influenced including the Bashi bowels. The clientele revels in the informality and deliciousness. I visited from Las Vegas, Nevada, and dined at K2 three of the five days I was in Birmingham, and rushed there on my last day before returning to America for one last, great, taste. In the pan-oriental, new-wave Birmingham scene the buzz-word is choice. All the Asian cuisines on offer here dovetail into each other. Service is speedy this early in the evening. The attractive staff are on the ball and create a gentle and oriental atmosphere. My Rendang Kambing is served before I can say ‘can of coca-cola’. In this dryish dish the spices combine to create distinctive and elusive flavours. It’s a popular Malaysian recipe, and it’s my first taste of it, and it’s clear why it’s a favourite. Eaten with plain rice, which allows the subtleties of the marinade to come through, it’s an experience worth taking time over. I recommend trying this place out for a canalside culinary experience at Birmingham’s flagship city centre development, the Mailbox, where you can shop at over fifty prestigious outlets before or after you’ve checked out the new Bull Ring and the rest of the retailers in an ever-changing city.

Went there after reading the reviews on here when we were staying nearby. All I can say is excellent! Love the Chocolate Fountain!

fantastic decor, very contemporary and opulant, loved the photos on the back of the chairs. good position by the water, lower level of mailbox.just the right amount of choice of food, often at oriental restaurants there is too much to choose from. portion sizes just right.food presented very well and was really very good. service was friendly and really enjoyed spending time there.

As the most local place to us we have visited The Cock on several occasions so it's worth revisiting. In the middle of Wishaw, I would definitely recommend you book otherwise you might just be left with a 9.30 sitting. The food is typical gastropub fare, fragrant risottos, fat steaks and tasty pizzas. Food is consistently very good with the risotto and steaks being a must although the service can sometimes be a little slow. Highly recommended and whilst pizzas and pastas are good value the steaks on a par price wise with city centre restaurants.

I've taken my family here many times in the past 10 years, the service is excellent, the food is plentiful, and never fails to please, with a wonderful choice of menu. We'll keep going again, great for that special treat.

My wife and I go here at least once a week (sometimes more) and Sam makes us feel at home and part of the family. The food is excellent, as is the service and I would recommend it to anyone who likes good Cantonese cooking at its best. Bring your own wine or beer.

This restaurant must rank along side the best in Birmingham. It offers a wide variety of choice, the food is cooked to perfection, there is plenty of choice and it tastes delicious. If a restaurant is fully booked mid week that should tell you how popular it is. I recommend a visit and then take your friends over and over again!

The food is amazing, the people are very friendly and welcoming and the service is brilliant. I would recommend the Chicken Makkani and the Chicken Tikka with fried onions! Lovely restaurant!

In the door, off the waterfront — Mailbox — Level 7 — between Penny Black’s and the new Don Salvo’s at Fino. An eclectic décor. Rumour has it there’s a refurb on the way. It’s easy to settle in here. Lunch time — Dim Sum is the way to go at this time of day. I kicked off with Tom Yam Kung — a hot, spicy, sour Thai soup — followed by Udang prawns with captivatingly aromatic curry leaves. Roti Canni — my last dish — is a Malaysian curry you eat with crisped roti. Quantity can’t substitute for quality. Staff were spot on. Had a light touch. And Allad, the manager, saw to it that we had our mint imperials at the end.

the service was brill the staff was friendly i felt so welcome the restaurant was nice and the price was not expensive it was well worth it and the food was lovely
