I had Sunday lunch today at the goytre arms with my son and his girlfriend. For many years I have eaten in this lovely pub and totally enjoyed the food. Today was not one of these days. The beef was tough and dry the veg bland and the Yorkshire pudding dry and tasteless. It's been such a long time since I had such a disappointing meal. I had crumble for desert with icecream. The fruit looked as though it came from a tin and the icecream had some awful sweet sauce drizzled over it. My son and girlfriend enjoyed a chocolate dessert but not their main meals. The staff were very warm and welcoming and gave just enough attention without being in your face.

I have been visiting Merolas for over 30 years and every meal is superb quality and value. Every customer is made to feel welcome and nothing is too much trouble for the excellent staff. I recently visited with my partner. We shared Italian pepper sausage in a spicy sauce to start and the gorgeous garlic bread. Simply divine. She then had Meatballs in arrabbiata sauce whilst I had my usual pizza. Again we shared. My partner confirmed what I knew which was that the pizza was the nicest ever tasted, the crust so light being from home made dough. If you like Italian food you will adore Merolas.

Still my favourite pub in Porth. Good for a few drinks or a meal with family. There are two bars and a separate restaurant, so you can get away from the noise if it's a busy day. Staff are lovely and food is good, but it does get busy some days, I guess because it is so reasonably priced. I thought it was very cheap when I took the family there the other week. Gwyn

Food was disgusting, changed twice first time not cooked and second time came out cold, not good you could hear the kitchen staff messing about not good for business at all never come here again. Needs a good shake up.

We have be going to Merolas since 1988 until 2000 then we moved to mid wales. We came to Cardiff last night so we went to Merolas it was like going down memory lane. The atmosphere and service and food has not changed great value for your money the wife and I had such a great time that we are going to make the trip to Merolas a once a month thank you Robert& lynne

I have now been to this lovely pub twice for a meal and both times the food has been fantastic, as is the decor etc. We received a great welcome and thoroughly enjoyed our visits. Looking forward to going again with family next week!!!

Working in Newport and my regular B&B was full so they recommended The Handpost. Arrived late but was still well looked after by the owner and staff. Had a great meal and stayed in the bar for a few hours drinking trad ales. Room was newly decorated and bed was nice and comfy, had a great sleep. Breakfast was fresh (continental) and the whole stay was made so simple. Definitely a new local when I work in Newport. Thank you for looking after me. x

I've been to too many restaurants and clubs, but I must say the Ice is unique in everything,,,,,,,,,the staff are very friendly, the menue is appealing, the whole place is very clean and not to mention prices are very reasonable,,,,,,,two thumbs up guys.

This is another one of my favourite pubs. I love the interior and the surroundings. Food is great and large portions, you won't be disappointed. Friendly staff all very accommodating.

A very poor service. Went with my daughter, she had a curry. It was slammed down in front of her.Also a bit of plastic from the microwave was left on the dish, when I complained the manager was very aggressive. Won't go there again

Came here on sat 30th of jan for my daughters 40 birthday meal. Our meals were fantastic the staff were attentive and enthusiastic and the overall atmosphere was brill. Cocktails are a must. Many thanks for making her birthday celebrations extra special.

Absolutely rubbishy. Called in after a very cold tiring day. Had to wait until chef came out unappetising vegetables glutinous gravy. Meal barely luke warm, asked for it to be reheated, no apology when returned. House wine £12 pounds (average price Upper Boat £6). Never again.P

Stayed here for my partners birthday on the 17th and the accommodation provided was on top for the spa, pool area was excellent. The food was outstanding couldn't of asked for anything to be better!

Had bar meals and Sunday dinner many times. Always great food and great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

Its actually Portuguese hence the name, Algarve!

We've been eating here for years and never had a bad meal, It only gets better. Great chef. friendly staff.

Had a very disappointing meal today at the Coldra Toby Carvery which is most unusable ,the waiting staff as always were lovely and helpful but the chef was miserable and rude even though he was wearing a Christmas hat which promotes Christmas cheer which he dident have ,our starters were very good the country vegtable soup and prawn cocktails were perfect, the main course how ever was dreadful , I had the turkey which was coming to the end of the bird so was full of fat grisly bits and the stuffing was powdery in the center where it hadent been mixed properly , some veg was good but some very hard and not cooked and as for the roast potatoes they were hard and over cooked , mash was tasteless . I have never needed to complain before but felt I needed to so these things can be corrected with the busy Christmas time ahead , it takes nothing to be polite and smile and makes any job more enjoyable the waiting staff do this so well ,
