After travelling extensively worldwide for business and for pleasure I can honestly say this is one of the best seafood restaurants I have eaten in. The food, service and friendliness is second to none. Thank you Hooked ! A 5 STAR experience

There's no where I'd rather go to unwind - the open fire warms the atmosphere as much as the conversation with the Ship's regulars. The joys of returning after a day walking the office cobwebs out of your hair to a home cooked meal, wine to sink into and ale to savour. Thanks to you all!

Firstly there was a serious miscommunication about happy hour which was dealt with in a harsh and rude attitude by the staff members. They did not listen to what the customer was saying and appeared nonchalant and dismissive. Would not recommend it. It also took over half hour to be served our drinks and even then our jug of water did not materialise until an hour into the evening- very poor, unfriendly, slow service. Thankfully the quality of the food almost made up for the poor quality of service. I currently hold the 'welcome host' award and most of the staff at Casa Romana would definitely not reach the requirements to achieve this award.

A real find this place. Near a wonderful old house we took for a week. The Derby Arms has a Dickensian feel, with its real fires and period features. The food was excellent too and encouraged us to eat there 3 times during the week.

Bit of an iconic place in the Lakes now. Has had a great reputation for a long time. On the whole we were not disappointed. My wife and son really enjoyed their food. I had the Christmas Turkey which wasn't up to much but will not hold that against them as it wasn't a staple of their menu. The place has real character in a wonderful part of the countryside. I have stayed there in the past too and would also recommend that.

Great place to shop for high quality produce in the Lakes.

Though we didn't have a large meal we were impressed with this place. A high end contemporary hotel in the Lakes. Our main motivation for going there was the spa which was a perfect escape from the sub zero temperatures outside. I personally prefer places with more olde worlde charm but if a modern vibe is your thing then this is definitely the place for you in Cumbria.

Our holiday in Windermere was made even better after a visit to Brambles. The home made food was divine and the service first class. Well done Amanda. We shall certainly return on our next visit to the lakes. Brian & Anneka

Lovely cosy pub with a bit of style, great menu and bustling bar. The perfect place to enjoy some hearty food after a long walk.

had a super meal there last week service and attention very good. the steak cooked to perfection!!!" thank you

Dodds Restaurant – Ambleside
The Fine Diner

All food on menu is from the pub owner's farms, and that's easy to spot in the quality of the dishes they serve. Great food and reasonable prices, service is polite and discreet... and they have roaring fires! Highly recommended, try the sausage and mash or the beef pie. Didn't try any of the beers but they had a decent selection on.

The Horse and Groom in Gosforth Cumbria is a pub to avoid! Very rude and sarcastic bar manager. We understood that it was under new management but we didn’t expect to be greeted by a ‘Basil Fawlty’ ! We were there for Sunday lunch yesterday and spent £85 for four of us. The bar manager was sarcastic when we walked in and on leaving was very rude to my daughter and granddaughter. I was in the loo at the time and missed the leaving comment but I know for sure that we will NEVER return to the Horse and Groom in Gosforth. Basil Fawlty! you are an idiot.

Had a great lunch for 6 here last Friday. The food was excellent and all enjoyed their choices. Service was very professional too. I always like it when a table is served or cleared mob handed by the front of house staff in an instant. Leaving the table to continue its conversation. Would like to return and try the ales too and perhaps stay the night.

My visits to the Ship Inn over the last year have being most pleasant. Always greeted and made to feel welcome in a nice warm stylish environment. I visited the Ship Inn many years ago but would not sit inside as i found it Grotty, Smelly and made to feel unwelcome by people who made them selves clear to be locals. The New make over since then has turned the pub around completely and i, my family and friends think for the better! The layout is very Spacious with large Dining Area and Comfortable lounge and bar area. The Layout isn't the only thing that's changed for the better. Gone are the days of standard Pub Grub the Ship Inn now appears to prepare all foods from scratch from the puddings to the pickle, the pastry on the pie and from the British to the Thai. With Grate British Meals served throughout the day and the exquisite transformation into an elegant Thai Restaurant in the evening. Never have i booked a table anywhere to turn up and find it closed, this does not happen and it certainly hasn't happened here! I find it hard to believe that this has happened to the person in the above comment as they say booked party's OFTEN turn up to find it closed! If that has happened why book again? I wouldn't. With the effort and hard work that's gone and going into Ship Inn by the two lovely lady's Tracy & Alex i cant see that been logical. (They don't seem thick!) The Ship Inn is well worth the Visit and food is recommended

visited this cafe last week (NOv 2010)when it was snowy and very cold. We were looking for a hearty bowl of hot soup and followed the sign. What a mistake! Door wide open letting the freezing cold in, one small heater doing nothing to heat the room, even though we sat right next to it. I had to close the wedged open door myself! The owner claimed to have the best soup in Bowness! at £4 per person we hoped he was telling the truth. The wooden seats with no cushions were very cold so had to sit on our coats. He kept walking around rubbing his hands to get warm and saying burrrrrrr! only to make us feel so much colder than we already were. Radio blarring out awful dance/pop music! The soup was heating in the microwave! delightful!! We were served our soup by the owner holding them with a towel! wide bowls, so it went cold very quickly, small portions, and obviously the veg from the day before. We didn't get our bread until we had finished our soup, as there seemed to be only one micowave!. When it came it was a rock hard small baugette bertween 2, which didn't even taste like real bread! When the owner asked if everything was ok, he seemed shocked and bewildered by our comments! Not woth the price and certainly will not be going back nor we would we recommend this place. Talked to a few people on holiday there too, and they had bad reviews too, one even walked out and left their breakfast it was so awful!

My Partner and I eat at the Wheatsheaf at least once a month and have only just stumbled across sugarvine and are truly amazed that the Wheatsheaf doesn't have a lot more reviews, The food and the service are always first class and everyone I mention the Wheatsheaf to agrees with me!! Keep up the good work Lee & Kate (& little Dan too)

Myself and two friends ate recently at Amigos. Overall was impressed. Only complaint was that cellar bar was quite cold and when I asked for tortilla chips to start with they were brought with the main meal instead of as a starter. Would definitely eat there again.
