The wife and I enjoyed a nice night time walk through the village and up the hill to the High Cross. It is in a great location with commanding views over the Duddon Valley and estuary. We were treated to a very warm welcome from the landlady. Had a fine local real ale by the huge roaring fire. Will be back to eat soon.

Visited Oilys on Valentines night. The staff were attentive & polite we enjoyed the food so much ! ! had all three courses, the food was so good as well as the atmosphere,definitely be back soon , keep the good work up :-) Dave

Just want to say what an absolutely fantastic evening the Kendalls had last night. A real surprise for mums birthday. Great service and food and loads of space for us 17 adults and 2 children alongside all of the diners on this busy evening. Lovely, lovely staff made the evening and the icing on the cake was how they brought out mums birthday cake, music and all. Many, many thanks to all and may I add that this was my first visit and I cannot wait for my next. Annie

I go here on a regular basis, never had a bad meal yet. Staff really friendly, decent price and menu is out of this world.

First visit last night to Lindale Inn and certainly won't be the last. Great welcome from John and Sue and standard of food was excellent. Fantastic value too and always appreciate being able to feed my kids off the main menu with smaller portions. Good selection of drinks including Moorhouses Blonde Witch - a personal favourite. Considering they only took over 4 days ago John and Sue did a fantastic job and we are looking forward to coming back at Easter.

It’s a number of years since I stayed here and on spec I booked a room for the wife and I between Xmas and New Year. If you’ve never been it’s essentially a privately owned pub and microbrewery in the middle of nowhere in the heights overlooking Lake Windermere between Ambleside and Hawkshead. The food was even better than I remember with my wife going so far as to declare the smoked haddock and Lancashire cheese soufflé as the best starter she had ever had. Good wine list too and of course decent beer as it’s brewed on-site.

Stayed here for a couple of nights in November for the first time and was thoroughly impressed. The food was outstanding and I can honestly say the dessert I had one night – a chocolate and butternut squash tart with mango and passion fruit – was the best I have ever had. The staff are young and friendly and this is in no way the stuffy old country house hotel that you might expect.

Enjoyed a very good Sunday lunch here last week. The place has a lovely warm and rustic feel to it. Log fires and an Olde Worlde charm. The service was good, partiularly from the friendly manager. The only downside was a waitress not knowing if nuts were actually in the turkey. She said they were not but they were. All front of house staff should know exactly what is on the menu and get trained on that by the chef!

Went there last night and one of the regulars who have a take away brought in a nail they found in their curry. Would you eat there after that?

This place surely has everything you could ask for in a Lakeland country pub. It’s steeped in history, wonderfully atmospheric and set in the stunning Troutbeck valley which is just far enough off the beaten track to keep out the hordes. The food is good quality with clearly a lot of thought going into the menu (foie gras anyone?) and presentation. You can also stay the night. I’m by no means an expert on pubs in the Lakes but would say that if you’re looking for real character and good food and drink then the Queen’s Head -- along with the Mason’s Arms at Strawberry Bank -- are hard to beat.

Stayed two nights at the hotel and dined in the restaurant on both nights, the food was outstanding, the staff were excellent made us comfortable and relaxed we will return..

We had a warm welcome from Amanda and Kevin when we arrived at branbles . The cafe was very homely and the sofa was comfortable. The homemade cakes were delicious and the rest of the food looked good to. I will definatley will be coming back to branbles . Thank you Amanda and Kevin

Dined at the restaurant for the first time with family from Oz. Food and service second to none. It was great to sit outside in the lovely patio area catching the last rays of the sun with our pre dinner drinks. We have returned several times at weekends and also taken advantage of the midweek menu which is superb valve for money, not one to be missed. I have now booked for a family christening and works xmas party. This is the place to be if you like good food and great atmosphere.

Had an excellent couple of pints here. Friendly service in a great olde worlde pub. Worth a visit if in the area.
