Fantastic meal and service

Amazing food at the Magpie cafe. We have never had a bad meal and can definitely recommend a lobster on a bed of salad and chips! But everything from fish pie, fish and chips to the halibut over the years have been good.

Food and service was fantastic. Not that busy for a Saturday night but suited us !

Fabolous food for both meat, fish, Vegetarian and Vegan diners. Large portions, great ambience, super staff and a stunning view over the harbour and abbey.

We had the seafood platter to share for my 40th Birthday as a special treat, and it did not dissappoint. Everything was great, the service, the atmosphere and the food was exceptional. All the shellfish was super fresh, and they had no problem swapping the Oysters as I am allergic. There was so much we couldn't finish it, and had to take the rest home! Thank you for a fantastic birthday experience.

Eaten here numerous times, over many visits to whitby, definitely the best fish restaurant in whitby by a mile,the service is superb, and the food well,wow amazing, the menu is vast and all fish is freshly caught that day,I would recommend any one to try it if your visiting whitby, make sure you leave room for a desert as they are absolutely gorgeous.

As part of our York/Whitby tour, we had booked the Magpie Cafe to satisfy our food curiosity... What a meal! Do not pass this one by if you are a lover of "fish n chips". The staff who meet and greet were very friendly and on our way to being seated, I felt a very lovely warm and inviting atmosphere. I had the scampi with chips and my husband had the salmon and haddock with thermidor sauce dish - both were absolutely fantastic! Good and generous portions that would be a challenge to the heartiest of foodies. So much so that even though the eyes wanted a dessert - the tummy was too full! 10/10 Magpie Cafe. It was the most expensive chip meal we both experienced but oh so very worth it. Keep on doing what you do best Magpie Cafe. You are all great! Thank you for a very memormorable meak/experience x

My wife and I eat in the Magpie on Thursday 23 Sept. first time inside as about 10 years ago we had fish and chips take away as we hadn’t booked. We learnt our lesson and pre-booked this time. Today the food was excellent. And lived up to the Restaurant reputation and our expectations. For starters she had tequila king prawns and I had scallops for starters. Both cooked perfectly and tasted great. My main was Magpie Medley and wife had grilled Halibut. Once again both excellent. Side veg and potatoes also nicely cooked. The best meal we have had on our 10 days holidays. The waitress was also very good. Attentive and friendly banter but never overbearing ( as was our experience in Beverley the next day at a different Restaraunt). Top marks to Magpie. Ps even loos we’re good. Not sure if recently decorated but very clean and fresh looking. Pps I only wish the Magpie would start a franchise in London. The Ivy restaurant has chains springing up all over so why not the Magpie - it is far superior!

It used to be a lovely place with atmosphere. However, probably like a lot of local pubs they are struggling. We went for lunch and was bitterly disappointed. I had a Dukes Burger allegedly with blue cheese. Definitely couldn't taste it. The Brioche bun was the size of a dinner bun as was the Burger. It was served with Mcdonald stay chips. It honestly looked as though it was thrown on a plate. No garnish, no coleslaw for £14 it was ridiculous. The carrot cake was the size of a finger and half of a kit Kat and half an inch thick. Not a piece of cake £6.50 the coffee was also disgusting. We sent cake and coffee back it was so awful. There was hardly anyone in I think there was a total of 5 people including us. I have read other reviews with utter dismay. The young man who looked after us was very personable, polite and professional as was the landlord when we arrived. Its just a shame the food was so awful. I certainly will not be back. Some may think reading this that the review its a little harsh but it's reality.

Went to Fuji Hiro for the first time in about 18 years on Thursday - loved it then, love it now. No fuss, just great affordable food - my ramen was fresh and tasty. Thank you guys

Our first visit to The Magpie Cafe. I expected it to be similar to lots of other fish and chip restaurants. How wrong I was. The quality of the food was off the scale. I really didn't expect it to be anything like as good as it was. It was fabulous. Also the staff were lovely, knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. We will definitely eat there every time we visit Whitby. I wish they would open a restaurant near to where we live!

had a 4day break in Whitby area dined at the magpie 3 times excellent as usual. liked the online booking, no queuing great.

The food was sublime. The staff where even better. Superb.

Booked a table for 8 friends. Easy book in process and a quick response when I asked if we could keep the table longer than the option allowed. Great atmosphere and excellent food. The menu is not a large menu but there is enough choice. I had the warm salmon and poached egg salad which was really nice, not your typical salad it’s definitely worth a try. Great service and a good night.

Ate as a family of 4 on a Friday evening. Excellent service and top quality food. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive and nothing was too much trouble (even accommodated our extra guest towards the end of the meal). This is the second time we have eaten here and on both occasions have found the ingredients to be of very high quality. Will be returning again to sample other dishes on the menu. Thank you.
