I was really disappointed with The Magpie Cafe after hearing such amazing things about it. I’ve had better food abd treatment in my local chippy in West Yorkshire. The first thing I noticed was the abrupt manner of the person on the door. Despite having booked I felt we were shown in abruptly and spoken to like we were riff raff. Secondly the quality of the Fish was appalling when we received our Fish and Chips. I ordered the medium fish and chips which was at best a very small fish. At £12 this was unbelievably overpriced. We also ordered a small fish which looked bigger than the medium fish and when we questioned it we were told it was a big ‘small’ fish which did not make any sense at all. The waitress that brought the food out was abrupt too. My plate arrived with a portion of mushy peas on the side which I had not ordered and to be honest don’t like. When I advised the waitress she abruptly said ‘it’s not touched your fish’! It’s safe to say I won’t be going there again. It feels like a place that has been incredibly successful in the past and has gotten complacent as a result of that success. The one pleasant and nice person was the waitress who was taking the orders. It felt like she was genuine and enjoyed her job.

Was really impressed with the menu choice for gluten free and the knowledge of cc. Good service and value for money.

Dinning at this restaurant has always been our priority before unfolding our other arrangements for the past year and the food is always nice.

Great food as always, attentive service and fantastic value when you compare the cost of eating good food at Tai Saab against similar estabishments.

Enjoyed a lovely meal at Magpie Cafe this week. Couldn’t believe what a fabulous menu of fresh fish and seafood was available. We were a large party of 13 and had made a reservation. All food selections were thoroughly enjoyed and service was efficient and friendly. One of our party required disabled access and we were able to use the lift that goes from just inside the Magpie takeaway to inside the restaurant. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience. Would definitely recommend.

Excellent food and service again

Even after booking 1 week in advance and notifying you of vegetarians this was a problem on the day. There had obviously been a lack of communication and a member of staff was moody and rude. We had a long wait and staff had to be reminded to bring glasses, condiments and water.

We visited for the first time a few weeks back and have now been back 3 times because we have enjoyed it so much! The food is always gorgeous, the staff are so lovely and friendly and it’s always a great atmosphere. Will highly recommend for anyone!

We really enjoyed our lovely meal at the Magpie. The staff were friendly and helpful - especially in sorting out a milk-free meal for my son - and the atmosphere was perfect.

This booking was made almost 3 weeks ago for my wife's birthday, it was her first meal out as she has shielded since March 2020. We had received an immediate confirmation when we booked and another the day before. When we arrived the restaurant was full apart from one table, we were met at the door by a waiter who had no note of our booking in the diary! We were offered an outside table which was what we had wanted. We had read reviews about bad service and long waits but I have to say everything was 100% perfect. The staff were all great, the food was amazing, tasty, freshly cooked and large portions. I love this restaurant and will return again and again. They are fantastic! I just hope that whoever manages the booking system improves.

I was quite disappointed as I’d booked a date night with my other half for a meal 10pm through the website only to find, even after email confirmation, that the restaurant was locked and closed when we arrived. Kinda ruined our night really.

First time we have been. What a hidden gem. Really family friendly and the food was really good. Will definitely be returning!

Never disappointed , always delicious and great service

Nice restaurant, staff, atmosphere and food! However, I would recommend expanding the grill menu (types of meat) and increasing the portion size of the pickled sides and the lettuce (full-sized leaves instead of halves). I would love to see slabs of pork belly served as it's a staple food at KBBQ. The dipping sauces were lovely, you can never beat ssamjang! Also the gochu-mayo was a nice surprise as I've never had it with bbq and it paired well. :)

It’s the first time we had visited since The Aegean moved premises and it did not disappoint. Fantastic food as always, great service and a very Greek atmosphere. Cannot wait to return.
