We highly recommend this pub to dine at, we used to be regulars here a few years ago and it has changed hands a few times and we were unhappy with the place and the food. However we tried it again a few weeks back and were pleasantly surprised, the new management are really good. Food is delicious and staff friendly and helpful . The manager remembered us and was very solicitous with me especially as I am disabled and unsteady on my feet , she couldn’t do enough for me

The dining experience at the Magpie is excellent because not only is the food, service and atmosphere is consistently good it is also a restaurant that you can eat and never be short of menu options because they offer a wide array of choices all exceptionally well cooked. We have visited the Magpie many times and always been delighted with every aspect.

Have been going to the Magpie for over 25 years and this last experience was not one of the best. Service was slow. Ordered bread and butter which finally came (after having to ask again) when we had almost finished our meal. Haddock is normally lovely but this piece was lacking in meat and the batter was not the usual light crisp texture. Skate also was not the usual white flesh but grey. Scampi starter is normally nice large langoustine/prawn these had shrunk in size and the breadcrumb coating not as light. I appreciate covid is having an impact but kitchen needs to up its game or we will not be back

In the years that I have been visiting the food is always nicely presented and looks delicious! I love the special lunch menu which is full of choice and you get a full meal - no half portions here. The evening menu has an amazing array of choice, the food tastes delicious, fresh and the portions are generous. Plenty of choice for vegetarians and vegans too. Love the décor and the restaurant is always clean and tidy. The staff are friendly and have managed their additional Covid precautions with kindness, politeness and efficiency. Looking forward to my next visit...

Had a really lovely Meal at the Magpie service was excellent and staff friendly certainly go back.

My daughter an I went yesterday and I remembered to book a table as its so popular! I've been before and it never disappoints! The food is beautifully cooked and presented, the best seafood for hundreds of miles! I wish this size would let me put on pics but sadly it doesn't. Anyway don't hesitate book and go! You won't regret it!

Excellent as usual! The new premises on Newland Avenue is a lot more open, airy and inviting than Anlaby Road with plenty of places nearby to park. Despite the restaurant being very busy with several large groups we received our meal in excellent time. The food was piping hot and absolutely delicious! The only slight complaint I'd have is that the bar staff was unable to make a cocktail - I'd suggest if the advertised cocktails cannot be made that the menu is turned around or removed from view.

Visited 20 July. 3 of us had standard fish, chips mushy peas and tea. Absolutely gorgeous.

As a group of six, we went for an evening meal. We had a brilliant night, not only was the food amazing, the service was too. We had Tracey as our waitress, what an asset she is , great customer service, nothing too much trouble and a fantastic personality. Every dish was delicious , cooked to everyone’s individual preference. 5star across the board, we will definitely be back.

First time we have been here in many years, and the fish and chips did not disappoint. The service was great, friendly staff. Quality food all in all a lovely evening

We visited this lovely restaurant on a very busy Saturday evening in July. We had booked in advance and the table was ready upon arrival. The food was delicious - we had Grilled Plaice, Monk Fish, Salmon and Cod with chips of course! All the fish was flaky and tasty and well presented. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The only negative thing I have to say is that it was very hot in the restaurant. I had taken a hand held fan and had to use it regularly. It was the hottest weekend so it probably isn't usually that warm inside. Definitely recommend a visit to this restaurant.

Booked a month in advance to be sat at the back of the restaurant in the corner. Food was average & nowhere near as good as on our previous visit. Service was pleasant but seemed to be over busy.

We'd heard of the brilliant reputation of The Magpie and that it was very popular so we booked a few weeks in advance. I have to say that it didn't disappoint. Our meals were amazing! The food was excellent and the service was high quality. I would completely recommend spending some time here.

We had a really lovely experience. The weather was glorious but we'd booked after hearing of the outdoor play area. We booked an outdoor table and luckily it had a parasol! The kids loved the play area and the menu was as expected for a Sunday with a couple of variations to the traditional roast. The food was really lovely, well cooked, plentiful and good value- all homemade rather than bought in frozen...it was a 10/10 for us. We will DEFINITELY be returning to sample the week day menu.

We enjoyed our meal on our recent holiday. The menu was extensive and the service was friendly and efficient. The haddock and chips and cod and chips were excellent. Well cooked with lovely crispy batter and white flaky fish. We shall definitely go back on our next trip to Whitby

Great food as always beautifully cooked and served by kind ladies who always have a smile too. Well done for making us feel safe during these strange times
