Lovely meal!

Absolutely perfect!

First class food. First class service.

Despite the slightly odd atmosphere created by the screens, and leaving through the back door into an alley, we enjoyed a really good meal at the Magpie Cafe one night last week. All of the food was excellent, as was the house white, and the service was impeccable. We shall return here any time we visit the Whitby area. Thoroughly recommended.

I brought my friend to this famous fish and chip cafe as she had never visited Whitby before. She sampled fish and chips and I had scampi and chips on the recommendation of James Martin. We were served by a lovely waitress called Mel who laughed with us 're James Martin. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals washed down with a bottle of wine. Would recommend to anyone wanting to try the local fish and chips.

A lovely Sunday lunch... A busy afternoon with a good atmosphere.. Glad to be able to go back after such a long lock down.. A great little restaurant

Our favourite restaurant in Whitby, never fails to impress on quality. Staff are always friendly too. This time we shared the camembert starter. I had the magpie fish pie ( which is huge and I had to leave some). Hubby had seafood pot which comes with ciabatta to mop up the lovely juices. Lady next to us had a whopping piece of turbot which she said was the best she had ever had. Waitress checked with chef who said it was caught locally in Stockton (nice to know). We have booked again for later this week. Top marks!

Never ever have we complained before or had a bad meal or bad service but This Sunday just gone it took ages for our food to come out when it did my pizza had hardly any cheese on it even though I asked for extra cheese on it so that had to go back my partner steak was raw inside even though he had asked for it very well done so that had to go back which added more time on our wait for our food we had ordered more drinks but we had to ask again for them and because the steak was raw the 1st time this put him off is steak so he couldn’t eat it so ended up taking it home for the 2 dogs we never got asked if we wanted black pepper like we normally do we have never been treated like this before as we have been quite often

It's a pleasure to return to this wonderful restaurant. The sushi chef is the same, we also enjoyed the service of the new, multilingual, waiter.

Visited on Fathers day for Sunday lunch. A complimentry tot of whiskey for all fathers was brought to the tables a nice touch. Some of the staff seemed new to the role but made up for any lack of knowlege with prompt friendly attention. The Sunday roast was excellent best produce and great cooking. Lovely relaxed atmosphere we are lucky to have this great venue nearby.

All I can say is what a perfect evening. We had a lovely meal we wasn't rushed to leave it was perfect. The food was delicious

Came to the Magpie for my sons 13th Birthday and just returned for his 38th Birthday. It still has a wonderful atmosphere and the staff were amazing and friendly. The food did not disappoint it was so tasty my son and son in law had the Cod and I had the starter Mixed fish in wine sauce with potatoes, it was more than enough. I won’t leave it so long to visit next time !

Visited Sambucas on 12th June to celebrate our anniversary. The food was lovely, atmosphere was great and it was good value for money. We've visited Sambucas quite a few times before and will definitely be back.

Had a lovely meal, everything we tried was fresh and tasty and portions were a good size. The service was very attentive and staff were around if we needed anything, kept coming to check we were ok but not in an intrusive way. Will definitely be back but we would like a few more vegan options as we have 2 in our family.

Visited for an anniversary celebration. Lovely surroundings. Staff were fabulous. Food was great. Only dish I had chosen was unavailable unfortunately. Went for chicken souvlaki instead. Could not fault it and the service was excellent

Went to York for our anniversary and booked here for food and it was absolutely superb! The food was AMAZING and so we would happily drive the 2 hours again purely to eat at this restaurant! The staff were very friendly and helpful and the restaurant itself had a lovely chilled out atmosphere.
