Grey Mare Inn – BlackburnSuperb. The staff and food are fantastic. The place is gorgeous, the staff go above and beyond. I have allergies and they were so helpful. One of the finest meals we have had in quite a while. I recommend it to you all and cannot imagine anyone being dissatisfied with their experience.
Mr Freds @ Stanley House – Blackburnmyself and family have been going to this restaurant for many, many years. Superb food. Owner and staff very helpful and friendly. would highly recommend.
Great Village – BlackburnWe usually really enjoy going to the Clog and Billycock, however, when we went for sunday lunch today, the service was appalling, and we waited at least half an hour for our main course, and the table next to us go their food first, and they ordered after us. very disappointing.
Clog and Billycock – BlackburnWe visited Shajan last night and although the food was acceptable the overall experience was somewhat underwhelming. The restaurant is clearly popular but for my mind far too many people are packed in to far too small a space. There are too many waiters dashing around the place, tables are too close together and the ambiance is claustrophobic. The overall impression is one of being on a conveyor belt and no sooner you settle than the feeling of being moved on sets in.
Shajan – BlackburnAmazing im going there for my birthday fave restaurant of all time
Checcos – BlackburnBland and uninspired in all respects. Food which was not carefully, or adequately, spiced and seasoned. Concentration on quantity over quality. Drinks overpriced. Lackadaisical service. On the plus side - it is clean and you get a lot of food. There are far better choices locally.
Spice Lounge – BlackburnThis is the BEST food i have ever eaten! I have been on holiday all over the world and eaten some brilliant food but this is the best and its just on my door step! Its 100% Clean, 100% quality for money, brilliant selection of drinks at the bar, great service and always a friendly and welcome atmosphere! The best Caribbean food i have ever tasted! all fresh and beautiful. Highly Recommend: The Red Snapper Sea Bass Jerk Chicken Reggae Reggae Lamb Chops I've been a good few times now and every time our table has got something new its all been brilliant so you can pick anything you like!
Calypso Restaurant – BlackburnHaving been to The Three Fishes at Mitton before, I thought of trying the Clog and Billycock for a change. This meal was nowhere near the same quality as the sister establishment. We had to order our own food at the bar which, considering the prices, was a very strange arrangement. As starters we ordered fish cakes and parsnip fritters. Although the fish cake was tasty the portion was absolutely tiny which was not helped by the lack of an inclusive bread basket. The parsnip fritters were simply deep fried parsnip chunks with what seemed like an off the shelf dip. For mains we ordered Rib Eye Steak which when presented was a very poor cut of meat for the £20 price. Although the steaks were ordered medium-rare they were grossly undercooked and I cannot believe the resident chief was on duty that night. The steak dish did not include any veg and was simply served with chips and onion rings, the mushroom was missing. The other main course, spinach pancakes again, came with absolutely no veg or even a salad garnish. On the positive the wine, beers and coffee were all very good as was the service apart from bar ordering, however food of this quality did not match the price that the dinner cost and I would definitely not recommend the Clog and Billycock.
Clog and Billycock – BlackburnGood impressions on entering the restaurant as the decor and dining area is stunning. We wanted a drink before we sat down but realised there is no room set aside for this unless you are happy to stand at the bar. Both my partner and I decided on the Sunday lunch special (3 courses for £19.50). Mushroom soup and Goats cheese tart were both very nice and fresh. The two main courses of Haddock/Langoustine gratin and Pork with Apple sauce were satisfactory but not great. Deserts of Stewed rhubarb and the cheeseboard were again satisfactory without being memorable. With the wine we ordered the meal cost £60.00 in total and I am not sure if was value for money. Style over substance springs to mind unfortunately. The staff were excellent and friendly but let themselves down on one point. As we were eating our main course late on a member of staff started cleaning the tables around us. We decided we probably would return at some point as we like to give second chances but we won't rush back.
Clog and Billycock – BlackburnI go to Heathcote's Longridge fairly regularly, and love it, and then I heard there was this, I thought, kind of stuffy, Michelin starred place down the road. which we thought we should try, sometime. So we did and realised you shouldn't make judgments before you try things. It was a superb eating experience, where I enjoyed a luxurious eating experience. Gentle ,quietly professional service and wonderful food. Astonishing place.
Northcote – BlackburnWent to the cafe in the crypt since change of management and have to say we were thoroughly impressed. Louise is an amazing asset to the front of house and always makes the customers feel very welcome with a smile and a friendly chat. As for the food well it was fantastic very fresh and hot. It thoroughly enlightened our tastebuds, and at under £5 for a main course an absolute steal. We would never have thought you could find a little gem like this in Blackburn town centre. And in such a beautiful setting. Highly recommended to all.
Cafe in the Crypt – BlackburnVery disappointing. Waited nearly an hour for poppadoms, then they brought the starters with them. Mixed up curry sauces on two dishes, one hot, the other mild. Poor service, small portions and over priced. Would not go again. There are far better Indian restaurants in the area.
Balti House – BlackburnFollowing a very impressive report and recommendation in the Chorley Guardian recently we visited the Calypso Caribbean Restaurant last night and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We deliberately declined starters and had a wide range of new foods by ordering the Platter For Two (£30) with a bottle of House Red (£12). The restaurant is situated in the basement of the Woodlands Hotel and offers fairly tightly spaced tables but the food is magnificent. By having the platter on our first visit we now have a wide experience to choose from the extensive menu next time we go. Thanks for the warm welcome of the family team and supporting staff. Martin and Beryl
Calypso Restaurant – BlackburnEnjoyed a quality sandwich at this quality Blackburn pub/restaurant. Great location near the m65.
O’Marley – BlackburnRubbish food with rubbish service and customer care. Thick pizza base, tasteless sauces and no interest in customer feedback. This was not the case three months ago
The Pack Belthorn – BlackburnRubbish food with rubbish service and customer care. Thick pizza base, tasteless sauces and no interest in customer feedback
The Pack Belthorn – BlackburnMy children took me to Calypso last Sunday for Mothers Day. I had never eaten Caribbean food before and absolutely loved it. There was a great atmosphere and the staff were wonderful We had the platter and that was great as we were able to sample lots of different dishes I will certainly be returning at every opportunity and would recommend to anyone.
